I wouldn't get too excited. They have their reasons why all the music channels became reality TV.

100 bucks sez they dedicate a majority of their programming to in-house content (The Real World, Beavis and Butthead, Road Rules) from 1992-2001. (cough-cough-millennials-cough-cough).

You will likely NOT be seeing much GOLDEN ERA MTV (1981-1989), except for the occasional "Flashback Weekend".

If they replay Beavis and Butthead, I might have to actually turn on the TV.

Kinda pointless when Youtube is just a click away.

I always said they should have an MTV Classic channel, it remains to be seen if they will be using recycled VJ tapes, etc. My guess is it'll be the usual...older clips and retro promos. Hopefully, it will be just that and not the long-form garbage that destroyed the channel back in the mid-80's.

Destroyed the channel in the mid-80's? Man... Most people don't think the channel was destroyed until the early 2000's when they stopped playing music videos.

Me? I'm all in for 1990's-era MTV because there was plenty of music-related shows and concerts but also some really great original programing.

Bring on the re-runs of Dead At 21! :)

You guys aren't expecting them to run extended clips of the MTV VJs from the 80's and 90's talking, are you? That doesn't draw in viewers, guys. We aren't going to get 15 m minute blocks of a VJ that originally aired in 1986 or 1992 or whatever.

It's going to be classic MTV shows (and probably clip compilations) and music videos.

Well, this is really disappointing for me. I enjoyed watching classic 80s videos on VH1 Classic sometimes in the mornings. Of course, it seems as though they've just been airing reality shows and old movies when I've flipped over there lately anyway, so I suppose the rebranding won't be much of a difference in programming. Just even fewer videos.

The August 1st launch date is significant, cuz if memory serves the "original" MTV first went on the air on August 1st, 1981.

...it's amazing to think that MTV has now existed for 35 years, but it's been completely unwatchable for the last 25. :D

Wow, so you think MTV has been unwatchable since 1991?! Really? MTV was putting out some pretty great programing (both music-related and not) in the 90's, IMO.

Jackson passed away in 2004, so I wouldn't hold my breath.
