Where are the two Disk Union classical stores located? I will go next June to Tokyo.

I haven’t reviewed the contents of the box. But, given the years in question, I’m guessing there are recordings with the Pittsburgh Symphony.

    Consider me intrigued.

They're in Shinjuku and Ochanomizu, separate stores surrounded by other Disk Union stores in both cases. Here's their Tokyo area map:

I received the reprint of the Bernstein Symphony Edition. I just wanted to alert folks that it did in fact happen. It seems they solved the issue of not being able to retrieve the bottom discs by adding a divet in the bottom of the tray, which is very much appreciated.

I, for one, think the sleeves are pretty nice. Considering they weren’t going the route of recreating the LP tracklistings, why use the LP artwork?

Regarding the Previn box announced above:

    (1) does it mean that he was recording for multiple labels at the same time? This box spans 1960-95, but that would overlap his EMI, Philips Classics and DG years too, no?

    (2) are these recordings as celebrated as some of the ones he did for EMI?

Mine arrived today as well - in pristine shape from Amazon UK, despite the dodgy packaging. I had almost given up hope of getting this set, and am thrilled to have it.

Thanks for the tip, I just placed my order! That's about $40 USD less than Presto. It's $111 there (and that's not including shipping).

Looking back through the thread regarding orders from Amazon.de, I don't feel especially confident that it won't arrive in sorry shape. Has anyone had a good experience getting an Amazon.de mega box to the US?

Yes, they arrive in great shape most of the time (~75-80%). At other times the shipping box is wrecked. They generally don't pack/stuff it well enough so the item inside slides around and if somebody along the line decides to put a heavy box on it........ Or sit on it...... Well...

Same experience here, I don't have any horror story to tell about Amazon.de, but based on how they pack the items, is based on pure luck...

Alright, so...just like Amazon US then. I thought about ponying up the $20+ surcharge for the faster shipping with the idea that the box being in circulation for less time would reduce the probability of damage, but I found a post in this thread saying it doesn't make a difference (in their experience).

I beg to differ. I usually pay for expedited shipping and I’ve had really good luck. I do believe there’s a difference between a package being in route for three days and being in route for 10 to 15 days. To me it’s always worth the money. And I’ve ordered dozens of box sets from overseas at the various Amazons.

I may go that route then. I did the standard shipping which is 8-12 days. The next tier up is 5-9 days. I can still upgrade the shipping speed if I choose to.

I think that’s a good idea. Returning items to Amazon overseas is a pain and it’s worth the few extra bucks to save the hassle. But I only order box sets from overseas if the shipping and the product are still less than what I could get from Amazon.com

Sometimes Amazon.de uses DHL and it arrives here in the US three days later. At other times they use standard shipping and it takes a few weeks. DHL shipping has always been perfect, but it seems random. Well, larger sets tend to be shipped via DHL, but I presume that it is not guaranteed.

Late thanks to Matt, Ben, and Moonfish for the Venias shipping info. I'd missed Ben's specific info above. I am still tempted. It looks like I might have missed the Ancerl box, sadly...cannot find any trace of it at HMV's English-language page. Also not clear on the inventory likelihood of the Markevitch...doesn't look like it's "in stock".

Oof, missed it twice now, Amazon.de is back to 95 Euro. This past week, right before the Amazon UK listing disappeared completely (except for Marketplace sellers), the Amazon stock listing said it would be "in stock October 11". No sign of this now.

Someone mentioned a slightly improved packaging (a divot at the bottom of tray?), so I'd hoped this was a new full run of the set.

I bought the box in its first iteration, and am curious if there are more substantial changes to this 2nd ed. I expect not, but there are new, better remasterings and even remixings of some of the content used in other, later Bernstein boxes, such as the Sibelius one, and it would be great if Sony had updated the content with these improved versions. Could someone who has the 2nd ed. check the back of the booklet to see if there is any mention of this. In the first edition booklet there is only a more generic description of the mastering done, and no mention of any mixing.
