Now playing: Antonio Vivaldi – The Four Seasons – Sinfonia in B minor RV169 'Al Santo Sepolcro' – Concerto Op.3/10 'Con quattro Violini e Violoncello obligato', RV 580 Jeanne Lamon (violin) – Tafelmusik (Vivarte / Sony Classical), CD 23 from the Vivarte collection box:
Not obscure, but quite typical romantic entertainment, if I remember right. Elvira Madigan, I mean. Otherwise it wouldn't have been such hit. Indeed. Bergman's Zauberflöte was funny.
My own personal best of/favorite classical mix cd-r. I play it for my own enjoyment and sometimes to expose and foist my tastes onto my nieces/nephews/friends, etc. (1) Debussy - Clair De Lune Slovak Radio Philharmonic Orchestra (2) Chopin - Etude in C Minor, Op, 10/12 Piano: Marian Pivka (3) Tchaikovsky - Melody in E Flat, Op. 42 Violin: Sarah Chang (age 9) (4) Beethoven - Fur Elise Piano: Van Cliburn (5) Mendelssohn - Violin Concerto No. 5 Violin: Jascha Heifetz (6) Rachmaninoff - Vocalise, Op. 34 Tchaikovsky Chamber Orchestra (7) Mozart - Eine Kleine Nachtmusik Boston Symphony Orchestra (8) Beethoven - Symphony No. 5, Op. 67 Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra
Now listening to "Berg - Chamber Concerto for Piano and Violin with 13 Wind Instruments/Stravinsky - Concerto in E-flat major for Chamber Orchestra; 8 Instrumental-Miniaturen; Ebony Concerto" performed by Daniel Barenboim and Pinchas Zukerman with Ensemble Intercontemporian led by Pierre Boulez on DG.
Er, Mendelssohn (wrote only one vln. cto., at least in general circulation)? or Mozart (did write five)? Heifetz recorded both. Either way, sounds like a nice collection.
Still in surprisingly good condition (+ pretty cover)... ... but I prefer, say, this one: Therefore, slightly noisier presentation...
Henryk Szeryng & LSO/Duratia - Brahms Violin Concerto (Mercury Living Presence) maroon 35mm mag film.
Now listening to "Verdi - Giovanna d'Arco" performed by the Ambrosian Opera Chorus and the London Symphony Orchestra led by James Levine on EMI. Featuring: Placido Domingo Montserrat Caballe Sherrill Milnes Keith Erwen Robert Lloyd
So Academy Records is popular with folks from the Greater NY area. It makes sense for me to visit one of these days as PRX is too far away ...
Another CD from the Vivarte box. IIRC, the performance is okay but it will not be my go-to Four Seasons ...
I bet a number of us probably have the following movie, myself included but I only have the VHS tape version ...
I have the CD version of this recording. I really enjoyed the Mozart Piano Concertos by Alica de Larrocha found in the following box and I had never owned any of her recordings until I purchased this box ...
I listened to the Schubert (D.899 and 946)--wow! Rather slowish tempos, especially D.899 No.1, but he certainly doesn't underplay the drama! The Schubert was taken from a different concert than the Beethoven, and it must have been cold/flu season! Not as bad as in Richter's live "Pictures" in Sofia, but still more coughing than I would prefer.
I hear you. The lack of detailed track information on historical recordings really makes their downloads quite unattractive ...
Now playing CD4 Schumann Piano Concerto in A minor Op. 54 Franck Symphonic Variations in F sharp minor Grieg Piano Concerto in A minor Op. 16 with Walter Gieseking at the piano from the following box for a first listen ...
Now playing the following CD from my Mozart collection ... I also have the following box which includes the same recording.
My initial impression of that release isn't very strong. I need to hear more, but I don't think his tempo choices work well for him. I am suprised because I love his D 959, which is "out there," as they say.
Now playing the following LP from my Russian composers collection. Two surprises here, a Rudolf Firkusny recording and a Sviatoslav Richter recording. I was particularly surprised by the latter, as I did not think I had any recording by S Richter on LP though this may well be the only one ...
