She was briefly the original Ruth Martin in "Lassie" in 1957. She was replaced by June Lockhart. I think Cloris was the better choice.

Miss Chicago, competed in the 1946 Miss America Pageant.

I, for one, think she looked gorgeous back then...

And more than a dozen years later, Ms. Lockhart - who by that point had been co-starring as "Dr. Janet Craig" on Petticoat Junction since 1968 (following original series star Bea Benaderet's death) - was effectively "replaced" by Ms. Leachman, given that the new Mary Tyler Moore show, when first premiered, aired in PJ's last time slot on Saturday evenings. A rather ironic form of karma, some might say . . .

Here is a shot from her probable first movie (1955) (the credits say, Introducing Cloris Leachman),
Kiss Me Deadly with Ralph Meeker.

Maybe, but Timmy was supposed to be adopted by the Martins.

IMDB claims she played an uncredited role in 1944's "Carnegie Hall", but if that's not correct, then you are - she did a lot of TV work prior to 1955 but no other movies...
