    stepeanut The gloves are off

The winter scenes in Tarkovsky’s Andrei Rublev look very cold indeed — especially so as the monks are not adequately dressed for the conditions.

Not a movie, but the Pine Barrens episode of The Sopranos was tremendous.

It always takes me out of the show when you can see obviously CGI-ed water vapor breath added, and incredibly sticky-looking fake snow everywhere.

Not sure if this is this movie's name, but I believe that story is from 'To Build A Fire', Jack London.

    Scott of the Antarctic (1948).
    Antarctica (1983). The dog movie.

Then there's all those abominable snowman movies. My favorite is Man Beast (1956), where our protagonists climb the Himalayas wearing light jackets and coats and no gloves.

Invasion of the Animal People (1959).

Because I always reference The French Connection.

It was filmed during one of the coldest winters on record in NYC. The scene where Hackman is staked out across from the restaurant, he is actually freezing his nuts off. They had to dart inside between takes to warm up. I think it was a cobbler's shop if I'm not mistaken.

Or where not to build a fire would be more apt.
Thanks for that, I was hoping somebody would put a name to the film/book even though I neglected to request it.
