The Collector's Choice site? I was able to get a connection just fine a minute ago (9:50 pm Saturday, July 5th).

    Also at 9:57pm.

Their site used to be terribly slow. It's somewhat improved but not as fast as it should be.

Any comments on the sound of CCM's Incredible String Band CDs?

Try clearing your temp files in IE.

    Tools>Internet OPtions>Delete Files

Check Box "delete all offline content"

    Click OK

    When finished , close IE.

    Open IE

    Try Site again.

For those who enjoy the Baja Marimba Band (they're pretty cool), CCM's release is one their better-sounding discs.

Yep. That's who I was thinking of. So Music Club's defunct?

  10. I recently purchased David Ackles - Subway To The Country (1970) to see what is is like. About a year ago CC licensed his three Elektra albums including American Gothic (1972) and the self-titled aka The Road To Cairo from 1968.

Don't know why Warner never released the albums domestically on CD. They've been available in the U.K./Europe since 1993. Caused a bit of an Ackles revival. Q magazine interviewed him back around '93/'94 when he was still alive.

I wasn't happy with the packaging. All you get is a two page essay on Ackles, which is interesting as there are inteviews with his widow Janice Vogel Ackles and Bernie Taupin who produced American Gothic, but that's it. American Gothic and the s/t CDs from Europe contain the lyrics to the albums. My original red label Elektra copy of Subway To The Country also has a lyrics sheet. Wonder why CC didn't reproduce it.

Subway To The Country was remastered for CC by Bob Fisher. The U.K. Elektra CDs contain no mastering credits.

BTW, that's Janice Vogel Ackles along with David on the front and back cover of American Gothic. They were married for over 20 years.
