This doesn't surprise me a bit. Seemed like PD titles were the easiest prey for colorization in the mid- to late-'80s.

I can't speak for Bradley or anyone else, but there are some of us for whom colorization of something shot in b&w, no matter how skillfully done, is *never* acceptable.

Just a philosophical difference, I guess.

It would depend who colorized them. If they were done like the recent Columbia Pictures DVDs from good prints and using the latest computerized method, they'd look good. But if they have that cheesy 80's colorized look, it wouldn't be worth the bother. These PD companies don't have access to that kind of thing, so I'd pass on these PD titles.

Beside that, a few of the PD Stooges titles throw on one Curly episode and fill up the rest of the disc with Shemp. :shake: My one PD title has "Disorder In The Court" and the rest...well, I can't even remember the titles of the Shemp shorts.

At least the Columbia DVD gives you the black and white versions as well. These guys are probably hoping some confused people will buy this one, thinking it's the Columbia disc.

By the way, how did those particular shorts get thrown in to the public domain, while all the other ones are still under copyright? Did someone forget to renew? I see that particular batch of shorts get reissued all the time by those cheapo companies.

That's most likely what happened reechie why these 4 shorts ended up in the PD while all the other ones are still under copyright. They were produced by Columbia Pictures.

Legend Films is the same company that runs the Off Color Films line of colorized horror and cult films. Besides these 3 Stooges shorts, Africa Screams, My Man Godfrey and a few Sherlock Holmes movies will be colorized by this company. They will most likely provide B&W prints as well ala their Reefer Madness, NOTLD, etc. DVDs.

So now you know what Legend Films does, colorizes PD films.
