I would make it an EP:

    1. She’s Gone
    2. It’s Alright
    3. Air Dance
    4. Changes

After the release they fire Ozzy, get their sax player back, and regroup for the 80s with Micheal Bolton as their lead singer.

Respectfully, no, sorry, do not agree. Heaven and Hell is one of the great metal/rock albums of all time. Much better than Never Say Die or Technical Ecstasy. Get the Mob Rules deluxe and listen to the live show at the Hammersmith Odeon. It is fantastic. I'm not sure Mob Rules isn't better than the last two with Ozzy..........and I love Ozzy. I still try to listen to those two albums with an open ear and still don't get it. I saw the tour in 1978 with Van Halen. Sorry, can't be convinced.

Only 2 real clunkers on TE.
Only 2 possible clunkers on NSD!.

Going with a classic 5 songs per side 70's LP format:

    Black Sabbath-Technical Say Die! (1978)
    Side A
    1. Never Say Die!
    2. You Won't Change Me
    3. Over to You
    4. Gypsy
    5. Dirty Women
    Side B:
    1. All Moving Parts (Stand Still)
    2. Rock 'n Roll Doctor
    3. A Hard Road
    4. Johnny Blade
    5. Back Street Kids

IMO TE is a good enough album you don't need to chop it up.. NSD could stand some track replaced..IMO

    Todd,

I certainly appreciate your constructive feedback, and recommendations. I will take your recommendations into consideration with a new sense of openedmindedness. Additionally, I think it’s this type of opinion you added that brings value to the forum.

I think my struggle with heaven and hell and mob rules is that to a sabbath/metal fan, they can certainly be appreciated and loved. But to me personally, BS first four albums are iconic and can withstand the test of time. Anything without Ozzy is forgettable wholistically. That does not speak to your point, other than the consideration that heaven and hell is a great metal/rock album of all time. I just don’t think it’s even a title that would ever be largely considered as such. Historically there is no significance. Anything historically significant in connection to sabbath was with Ozzy.

Never Say Die is my #3 Sabbath album (I'd rank it only below Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage). So I'll veto this idea.

Sounds like it could be an outtake from the Sabotage sessions.

Ahhh. A later day Sab fan! Nice. Sabotage could be my #1 on any given day, but so could the s/t.

Technical ecstasy isn't worse than Sabotage. Both are somewhat lacklustre albums.

I can only think of two cuts off of these albums that I could live without.
It's Alright and Swingin' The Chain.

Probably because most of the music was written with Dave Walker first before Ozz came back. Man, I don't understand how people praise the 1st studio album for the blues and jazz influence and totally write off NSD! as a throwaway record. It's pure original Black Sabbath with their influences shining throughout. Plus, Don's key work on the whole album is just mesmerizing!

I don't understand what you mean..
How do the originators and innovators of a genre when replacing their singer become pretenders at the same time as reinventing heavy metal with two records that influenced just as many people as the original band did..?
Maybe that could be said around the Seventh Star/Eternal Idol era, but I still wouldn't because the material and musicians on those albums were pretty solid. I mean, Eternal was a really heavy and well written album thanks to Bob Daisley (eat that Ozzy!)
I think I would call them pretenders from when 13 was released. It's the first album in the whole history of Black Sabbath that sounded like rewritten crap. It was the first step backwards I ever seen them take! Each album was different from the last. Hell, Dehumanizer could have sounded like H&H and Mob Rules, but it took a different approach and The Devil You Know also had a new and different sound but still it was 100% Black Sabbath. That's what I loved about Sabbath and all of the eras.
