I have a question about converting CD files to 128K and back to AIFF.

I put a lot of CD files from my collection onto iTunes @ 128K.
I now want to convert them back to CD quality (AIFF).
Can I just use iTunes to convert them back to 1411K or do I have to rip the CD files to AIFF?
I'm going to audition some headphones and want to best quality to transfer to my ipod.

once they were converted to 128 kbps, the quality was lost. You can't make them lossless again. You need to convert directly from the original CD.

As @sakuraba says, the 128k files sound is irretrievably degraded. The best way to transfer to an iPod/iPhone is you need to RE-RIP into Apple Lossless. (AIFF takes up excess space to no useful purpose). You should re-rip all your stuff anyway, to at least like 200+ VBR or Lossless, because 128k just does not sound too good. It misses...something.

You can't. Your music is screwed at 128 kbps. Re-rip to lossless. You cannot get back what you threw away. Get to work!

thanks for the replies. I thought that I would have to re-rip, but wanted other opinions.
