What software would you recommend for converting FLAC files to MP3 for use in my ipod?

I like dBPoweramp Batch Converter. Just a few clicks and you can do hundreds of songs at a time, in the background.

Ditto. Since my portable MP3 player does not support ReplayGain, I apply album (or track) ReplayGain values while converting FLAC albums (or compilations/playlists) to MP3s in foobar2000 (avoiding clipping, of course).

I use a program called "Switch" by NCH. Works great, and I use it for free.

I use "AudioCoder" (Windows, freeware). Primarily for AAC, but also supports MP3. I use it to adjust gain and sample rate -- the latter being a 96khz source to 48khz transcode.

    100% for foobar2000!
plus, I raid rarewares.org for the latest codecs, thus keeping my foobar2000 always up-to-date.

I use dbPoweramp too. One thing I really like.. it will show you a log on any conversion errors.. what I've found (confirmed with another analyzer) is that a failed flac>mp3 conversion shows that the flac itself was bad (timing glitch or crc error). So I now do a batch of mp3s after ripping some cds to flac to know all is well. I do know that db will make both flac and mp3 during the rip if you want, but don't know if it will then show the errors on the flacs, which is most important to me.

dBPoweramp also supports multi-cores/multi-threading. So, I can run 8 conversions at once

Nice. I have not tried it in over a year, sounds like it added a lot of features.

^ It's very fast to, say, downmix an album (5.1 -> 2.0) in fb2k now since the conversion processes use all of the available CPUs ;)

Yeah, Fb2k is the only software I've used that will downmix multi-channel without dithering or clipping.
I still use dBPoweramp for most basic tasks, though. (Such as what the OP is describing).

Another vote for dBPowerAmp. I'm a big Mac guy,and generally prefer to use this Windows program over anything on the Mac. But... when I do use Mac OSX, I use Sound Grinder, which plays and converts FLAC just fine.
