Probably one of the stupidest, most poorly-thought-out TV shows I have ever seen. And that's saying quite a bit.

There must be at least 20 TV series that should be released on DVD before this one.

Then again, I'm over 50 and not the target demographic for anything anymore...

Shout Factory's the ideal company to release "Cop Rock."
They specialize in giving the royal treatment to weird, oddball, trashy B-movies and TV.

I remember all the hype for "Cop Rock" when it premiered but I only watched it once years later, after it famously crashed and burned. VH1 ran a marathon of all the episodes on a Sunday afternoon and I couldn't get past the first commercial break... it was just too damned silly.

When "The Simpsons" randomly breaks into a big musical number out of nowhere, it's funny. When the cast of a gritty police procedural in the midst of a murder investigation does the same thing, it's just ... weird.

For the life of me, I cannot understand how that show made it to the air. Surely there had to have been someone, somewhere along the production line who spoke up and said, "This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen," right?

  5. I liked it. It was a musical. I accept that people in a musical will burst into song for no good reason. Even cops.

Sandman's great. That must be one of Randy Newman's compositions...It definitely sounds like Newman...

And for the nay-sayers: Just the fact that this show features a bunch of Randy Newman compositions is reason enough for it to be preserved...

Not to mention a cameo from a then-unknown singer named Sheryl Crow on the 11th episode.

Cop Rock? Why can't Shout Factory put out quality TV shows like Supertrain?
