Oh yes! I would compile the double LP version exactly like this and take the artwork (I recently made) with it.

Wonder if George is holding a 'Paint It Black' or '19th Nervous Breakdown' 45 for completion or something^^

The Aftermath LP sounds best in mono. If we compile it together with the singles from that period... just perfect without that switching stereo to mono back and forth.^^

Really nice. It's got just the right (European) feel.

If only they'd gone with that for the actual album!

I'm surprised that so few people have added the band's other "Mother" song from this time period.

'Have You Seen Your Mother Baby, Standing In The Shadow'?... Hmm wouldn't fit so good, I think. That track was recorded late 1966.
Aftermath is mostly stuff from December 1965 over early 1966. The sound of the band changed rapidly towards the year. But could be because of the different studio locations and its recording qualities.

Yeah, Have you seen... is post Aftermath. It was started in August 1966 at RCA along with Who's Driving Your Plane? and some other tracks, the others being released on Between The Buttons. :)

Final steps recorded at IBC in London. 31 August - 2 September 1966. Same with the b-side. The single wouldn't fit to an extended Aftermath... or Between The Buttons neither.

It works on an expanded Buttons, mostly due to the shared guitar sounds and general production.

'Have You Seen...' sound a bit too reverbed than the ones on Buttons. Maybe 'Plane' could get a chance, although most of the vocals are strange, echoey. Can be that I think more of a concept album style, audio wise.^^

I'd separate it into two LPs:

The Rolling Stones - Could You Walk on Water?
    Side One:
    01 19th Nervous Breakdown
    02 Sad Day
    03 Lookin' Tired
04 I've Been Loving You Too Long (recorded in between these sessions and Out of Our Heads, so fair game)
05 Take it Or Leave It
    06 Mother's Little Helper
    Side Two:
    07 Goin' Home (3-minute edit)
    08 Ride On, Baby
09 As Tears Go By (ditto "I've Been Loving You Too Long")
    10 Think
    11 Doncha Bother Me
    12 Sittin' on a Fence

    The Rolling Stones - Aftermath
    Side One:
    01 Paint It, Black
    02 Stupid Girl
    03 Lady Jane
    04 Under My Thumb
    05 If You Let Me
    06 Long Long While
    Side Two:
    07 Flight 505
    08 High and Dry
    09 It's Not Easy
10 Out of Time (short version)
    11 I Am Waiting
    12 What to Do?

It's really obvious that Aftermath would be the stronger album, but CYWOW? would still be a nice one. For album covers, I'll use @andrewskyDE's fantastic cover in Aftermath, and this:

Some sources put it at the end of the Aftermath sessions and some at the beginning of the Between The Buttons sessions.

    Here is an example.

    Oldham. Sound engineer: Dave Hassinger.

    - Lady Jane II (MJ/KR) -Jack Nitzsche on harpsichord; Aftermath-version
    - Long Long While (MJ/KR) -STU on organ, Jack Nitzsche on piano and
    tambourine; 7“ version
    - Out Of Time I (MJ/KR) -STU on organ, Jack Nitzsche on piano; instrumental
    - Out Of Time II (MJ/KR) -STU on organ, Jack Nitzsche on piano; Aftermath- version
    - Paint It Black I (MJ/KR) -Jack Nitzsche on piano; edited instrumental backing
    track of version III
    - Paint It Black II (MJ/KR) -Jack Nitzsche on piano; slightly longer version with
definite ending of III; Guitar Hero-version (see 071028C)
    - Paint It Black III (MJ/KR) -Jack Nitzsche on piano; 7“-version
    - Paint It Black IV (MJ/KR) -Jack Nitzsche on piano; edit (see 680800A)
    - Stupid Girl (MJ/KR) -STU on organ, Jack Nitzsche on harpsichord;
    Aftermath-version
    - Tracks Of My Tears (Smokey Robinson) -unverified
    - Under My Thumb (MJ/KR) -Aftermath-version
    - What To Do (MJ/KR) -STU on piano; Aftermath-version
+ probably more (all in all about 20 new songs)
Additional musician: Jack Nitzsche on percussion.

I'm revisiting this thread, and at the moment, have changed my mind. I like the idea of having a CD-R with all 20 Aftermath-era tracks together, but as an official release, Aftermath would have been a little bloated as a double album. Right now, my ideal Aftermath is a hybrid of both the U.K. and U.S. releases:

    Side 1:
    1. Paint It Black
    2. Stupid Girl
    3. Mother's Little Helper
    4. Lady Jane
    5. Under My Thumb
    6. Doncha Bother Me
    7. Think

    Side 2:
    1. Flight 505
    2. High and Dry
    3. Out of Time
    4. It's Not Easy
    5. I Am Waiting
    6. Take It or Leave It
    7. Going Home

Similarly, here's my current Between The Buttons sequence:

    Side 1:
    1. Yesterday's Papers
    2. Ruby Tuesday
    3. My Obsession
    4. Back Street Girl
    5. Connection
    6. She Smiled Sweetly
    7. Cool, Calm, and Collected

    Side 2:
    1. All Sold Out
    2. Please Go Home
    3. Who's Been Sleeping Here?
    4. Complicated
    5. Miss Amanda Jones
    6. Let's Spend The Night Together
    7. Something Happened To Me Yesterday

Funny, I was trying this out on my own tonight, then googled to see if this had been discussed anywhere. Lo and behold, on my fave geek out forum, here's that thread.

Here's the Itunes playlist I'd just tried before finding the thread. It's working OK so far. I may tweak it.
In places I tried to tell vague stories by sequencing songs back to back. In other places I went for musical contrast.

I left out B-sides "Sad Day" and "Long Long While" because I think they are pretty dire. But "Looking Tired," which is basically Robert Johnson's "32-20 Blues" with some new words (and some old ones), isn't bad.

Miraculously, each side is 19 minutes long, except for the short side 3.

    Side 1:
19th Nervous Breakdown (old mix, prior to reissue program's "Diddley Daddy" mixout)
    It's Not Easy
    Lady Jane
    Looking Tired (unreleased)
    Take It or Leave It
    Under My Thumb

    Side Two
    Mother's Little Helper
    I Am Waiting
    High And Dry
    Stupid Girl (mono single mix)
    Doncha Bother Me
    Out of Time (Flowers Edit)

    Side Three
    Goin' Home

    Side Four
    Flight 505
    Think
    What To Do
    Ride On Baby
    Sittin' On A Fence
Paint It Black (long mono mix)

I was surprised to find myself putting "Goin' Home" on Side Three, all alone. I thought for sure I'd want it at the end....but you really can't beat "Sittin' on a Fence," with" Paint It Black" as an apocalyptic encore.
