Well, the Love disc isn't too bad, so.......And as I said, the recording of MAF was probably hot.

I have no doubt that Steve could make it sound BETTER.

But BETTER is still a long way from GOOD, in this case...

Mastering just cannot cure a sh**ty recording.

As Bob Ludwig said, Paul and David wanted it to sound like that.

    Kinda sad...

    Steve

Even if you can go back to the digital equivalent of a multi-track master?

Ah, Grasshoppa, but Steve is not usually working with the multi-track...Mastering involves only the finished master...could be stereo, could be mono, could be 5.1, analog or digital, but the songs are already mixed...

I seem to recall he said he has done it sometimes, or was it exclusively in his early years?

And here I was all this time thinking an artist had the right to present his art in any way he saw fit.

Good thing there weren't message boards in Gainsborough's day.

"Like the idea for the painting, Tommy, but all that blue hurts my eyes. Wah."

Yes, that undeniably the absolute right of the artist. Being an "artist" myself (I'm a film director) I wouldn't argue with that. But I wouldn't mind if someone did another "rendition" of my work, if it's well done. And Steve's work is well done, isn't it? Anyway, it was a "we can always dream" kinda thread. :o
