One of the most prolific songwriters in the history of popular music and half of the writing team of Acuff Rose, Fred Rose passed away on this day in 1954. He was 57 years old. His songs have been covered by Elvis, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Peggy Lee, Don Gibson, Mose Allison, Don Gibson, Dean Martin, Gene Autry, Ray Charles and Roy Orbison among many others. He is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

I hope to hear from Steve and Bradley on this one.
    Fred Rose: rest peacefully.

    Cheers-
    Norm

And Fred is still missed and not only was he a great songwriter, but a very successful businessman.

I had no idea that he was also a successful businessman.
I just knew that he was a very prolific songwriter. He truly has an amazing catalog.
    Cheers-

Yep, he did co-own Acuff-Rose publishing with Roy Acuff.

Made a few bucks with that for sure... One of the biggies.

Fred wrote many wonderful songs and (as if you couldn't have guessed) wrote most of Hank's as well!

Yes, Fred did write most of Hank's songs as well.

Ed Bishop Incredibly, I'm still here

If all Rose had written was "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain" I'd consider him a songwriting immortal. Obviously, that's just one of many remarkable, moving classics from the man.

Thanks for reminding us, Norm. Such talent should never be forgotten!
