There's a YouTube channel I follow called Glove & Boots. They covered a Beatles song as well. Purists may object, but I love the silliness of this version of All Together Now:
I just remembered a couple of others: The New Edition - Drive My Car (not the American R&B group, but the British pop act who had a hit with Sunshine Saturday in 1976) Dave Morgan - I'll Be Back (unreleased, but was available as a free download on his website until about a year ago) There's also a tribute album from 2007 called Mojo Presents Sgt. Pepper that features the following covers: Simple Kid - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Puerto Muerto - With a Little Help from My Friends Circulus - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (I already mentioned his one in an earlier post) Fionn Regan - Getting Better 747s - Fixing a Hole Unkle Bob - She's Leaving Home Bikeride - Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite Stephanie Dosen - Within You Without You Chin Up Chin Up - When I'm 64 Dave Cloud & the Gospel of Power - Lovely Rita The M's - Good Morning Good Morning Simple Kid - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) Captain - A Day in the Life Some versions of the album include a cover of All You Need is Love by Echo & the Bunnymen as a bonus track. Just to clarify, the Move's Something is a completely different song:
Not in the original list , not sure if it has been added since . Strawberry Fields Forever - Plastic Penny
There was a musac version of The Ballad Of John And Yoko on another thread which made me think of this thread and that it is pretty weird to cover such an autobiographical song. (unless it is for a tribute I guess)
You missed most of the covers featured on these two compilations: Come Together - Guitar Tribute To Beatles http://www.discogs.com/Various-Come-Together-Guitar-Tribute-To-Beatles/master/644776 Come Together: Guitar Tribute To The Beatles Vol. 2 http://www.discogs.com/Various-Come-Together-Guitar-Tribute-To-The-Beatles-Vol-2/release/6337213
Great list! Really appreciated. I'd like to add: Revolution 9 - The Shazam All You Need Is Love - New Musik (They released two songs under this title on their final album, Warp. One of them is an original and the other is a Beatles cover.)
another place for Beatles covers http://www.pwcollections.nl/beatles_new/index.php 6554 Unique Cover Versions 2224 Artists (covering Beatles songs) 1232 Items with Beatles Cover Versions not easy for a quick look but has lots of info
Thanks for this brilliant suggestion; I had no idea that this book existed. I will definitely have to get it.
I am glad that you like the list, and I hope that you find some covers that you enjoy on it. Thanks for you great additions; I love finding covers of Revolution 9. It is amazing to think that anyone can cover it.
That's why I posted it! It's actually quite a thin book, but even so, it's packed with info. The author has fun with the book too, there's a lot of humor in the writing, and it's obvious he actually listened to all the versions he writes about (just thinking about that is enough to give you the shakes). I've got a few more cover versions in my record collection that I'll post here next time.
Yeah, I've heard it; in all honesty I don't think it's anything special, at least in my opinion. Having said that, the only reason I actually listened to it was because Circulus were involved so I wasn't really expecting much anyway, but even their contribution isn't all that great either (apparently they didn't want to be involved and the only reason they did it was because they were told to, and it shows when you hear it).
Well, today I only have one addition that is not already listed in http://beatlescovers.bizerks.com/ The London Symphony Orchestra - A Day In The Life
