Kevin, in words of one syllable "NO". The MFSL is the ONLY one that doesn't have an upper midrange shrieky quality to it. Try the others, but IMHO they aren't even close. It's the smoothness of vocal sibilants and wah-wah that is the great part.

I'd forgotten about the part of another track at the start of Strange Brew. Can't remember which version it was on (of the WG RSO or the US remaster). Gone from the MFSL and the Deluxe Edition.

Thanks John. I won't rush out to get one then.

My copy of the Polydor Drake/Calbi master doesn't have that brief snippet at the beginning of "Strange Brew". Must only be the initial RSO's.

I've just got hold of the Polydor USA mastered by Drake and have done a very quick comparison with the RSO. They are both to some extent hissy, the RSO moreso, but what really surprised me was how much more bass the RSO has than the Polydor.

I can't decide which I prefer. It really is a trade-off between less hiss or more bass. I'll probably sway toward the latter.

I just got a West German RSO on the 'bay for 99 cents. Holy (red) cow, the bass on this thing! It's not exactly tight well-defined bass, so salt to taste, but this will be my go-to copy until I can track down an MFSL to compare.
