If Steve says do it, do it. I had the CDs but when this box came out I bought it and was greatly impressed by the clarity and power of the sound (though others disagree). And I paid $85 US for it when it came out in 2001. Adjusted for inflation that's $122. Heck, I want to buy one for $40 just to get the deal!

I will buy it. It's decided.
If ever I get a job that doesn't pay in pesos I will slowly get the DCCs, ditch the box and keep the first disc.
Now someone please respond to my Four Pennies thread lol.

Soooooooooooo I got an email with a 15% ebay discount on an email and, combined with another 15% from Importcds on ebay I got the CCR boxed set brand new for USD 37 shipped to LA (The importcds discount was good when getting at least another boxed set from them so I also bought Engelbert Humperdinck's Complete Decca Albums 11 CD set for USD 33).
Even if the sound is not as stellar as it can be, I got all the studio albums, the live stuff, the pre-CCR stuff in a single package for an affordable price.
BTW the ebay discount of 15% is still valid until the end of today I think.
I will not be visiting LA until early August (flying there to see Jeff's ELO and some other shows). Can't wait!

This Fantasy box set just came in today

I haven't had a chance to hear it yet; hopefully this weekend.

I'm curious: the copyright on the discs are 2001 and 2013. Was this set remastered in 2013?

Can you check if at the 42 second mark of track #24 on disc 5 (a live performance of "Commotion" originally released on THE CONCERT) is there a complete drop-out of the audio for a bit more than a second?

There's no drop-out; it plays through just fine.

So this set is too bright? Couldn't one just turn up the bass and turn down tbe treble? Would that help?

It's also pretty digitally compressed so you can't really fix that.

So the cheapest greatest sounding versions are the original cds?

Yeah if you don't want to spend the money for the SACDs then the original CDs are the way to go.

I don't mind spending money on the SACDs if they aren't a hundred bucks a piece. Are they a limited pressing?

Worth every cent. Much less bright than the Fantasy digipak + bonus track remasters - thank you to SH for the superb mastering of the Analogue Production SACD hybrids.

I don't find the Fantasy digipac versions at all overly bright. The simulated "wooden" box issues 9the so-called, "20-bit logic")which came prior to the Fantasys were far brighter (and louder). i thought the digipac versions had a far better balanced sound.

Not even close to the SACD hybrids, DK Pete. I sold all the digipacks when the SACD hybrids crossed the doorstep. despite the extra tracks on the digipaks. Not a single regret. Digipak versions brightened up the drums and made John's vocals sibilant. SACD mastering starts with the vocals being equalized correctly and lets the drums fall where they may = very good sound at higher volumes, compared with a sibilant ear piercer on the digipaks.
