    Songs for Beginners-Graham Nash

Didn't Neil Young's manager also say Nash's was the best of the four's solo album in that time period?

I think this poll is unfair if we're asking C S and N to compete with Y's vast and varied discography.

If you were going to confine to the initial releases by band members AFTER Deja-Vu, things might be a little more interesting and I'd be inclined to go for Crosby's IICORMN.

Neil Young had a bunch, also like David Crosby's first album.

This subject has been talked about quite a lot before now and even though it's a closed thread (see below) this will answer the topic perfectly. Without putting a year to year period on this subject Neil Young wins by a country mile just as the poll in the closed thread (below) attests to. But year by year all 4 members would have a good claim for the title. So this is kinda a waste if a thread IMHO.

Best Debut?: Crosby - If I Could Only Remember My Name

Best Album in the "classic" CSNY period?: either the above or Stills - Manassas

Best Album ever?: Neil - Rust Never Sleeps

    or...

Just "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" for all 3... (well maybe "technically" not the first one!!!)

I'd probably opt for Stills' Manassas or 1st album...followed by Neil's stuff such as After the Gold Rush and Everybody Knows...followed by Crosby If I could Only Remember My Name.

    :yikes:

you MUST go right now, sunday or not, and buy crosby's 'if i could only remember my name'.

then get his last 3 solo albums.

then go back to 'oh, yes i can' and 'thousand roads' and the live one.

after you digest those, there are 4 crosby*nash albums and 4 CPR albums.

come back to this thread in about 3 - 6 months and let us know what you discovered.

oh, by the way, prepare to be blown away.

    hmmm.

the best solo album from the 4 of them.

tough one for sure as all 4 have had more than a couple of gems in their catalogs.

crosby - IICORMN and probably 'lighthouse', although any one of the last 3 would do.

stills - his 2 (1970 and 1975) s/t titled albums stand out along with manassas first

nash - 'songs for beginners' and 'earth and sky" (earth and sky' is an unheard gem)

young - has there ever been a better run than 'everybody know this is nowhere' to 'zuma'

and we can;t forget the stills-young band, another often overlooked catalog gem.

and all 4 crosby*nash have something to offer too.

I own and enjoy all mentioned above, with the exception of Manasses, which was part of an LP collection I recently purchased.
While I enjoy Songs for Beginners, and the masterful Neil Young LP's mentioned above, David Crosby's solo debut would be
    my desert island choice.

Agreed, it blows away anything by Young but there's no denying he had the most successful career.
BTW, Graham Nash has a new anthology out with a second disc of demos

For me it's a tie between After the Gold Rush and Harvest by NY. IMHO nothing by Stills, Nash or Crosby comes close and I have most of Stills solo and Nash's Song For Beginners. Not that fond of anything Crosby put out.

Neil Young has more great solo albums than the other three put together. For Crosby, his best is definitely If I Could Only Remember My Name..., Stills has his debut, and the first Manassas LP, Nash has Songs for Beginners.

The first two Crosby/Nash albums are both worth your time though, as is Stills from 1975, and even Nash's Wild Tales (which doesn't seem to have a remastered CD anywhere that I can find). I also have a sweet spot for the second Manassas record, though nobody seems to share that opinion with me.
