    You did that intentionally, right?

I’m feeling a strong sense of...

This sounds akin to “moving the goalposts”...
    :agree:
Deciding which album you’d like to select, then creating the parameters in which your selection would be justified.

If I had a top 13 between all of them, the first 12 would be Neil Young albums before any of the others even came to mind, and I'd probably round out the 13th with him too.

I would suggest you listen to his 3 latest albums....especially Sky Trails.

I guess Neil Young released the best solo records. Though I am a much bigger fan of Crosby and his voice.

    My 2 pesos:

I wouldn’t go so far to say this is a waste of a thread, however, I think some posts here randomly apply various limitations, either stated or just as part of the mental calculation:

    Solo debut albums
    Solo albums post-Deja Vu
    Excluding Neil Young albums
Manassas is a group effort, not solo
Current albums (as if from a separate canon)
Underdog Syndrome: “_______” album is really underrated!
    Excluding “albums that I’ve overheard”
Excluding “I used to really like this, but I’m burnt out on it”
    Personal bias for an artist
    Personal bias against an artist

    It’s just human nature...
So, this thread (and similar ones) can’t really be counted on as an accurate “poll” as to what the participants truly think of the OP question.

    YMMV

Yep it should.......Neil has a minimum 3 albums (super duper conservative estimate)that are better than anything the other 3 did solo

Also better than anything the other three did together for that matter.

Since Manassas and Rust Never Sleeps were mentioned early in the thread I assume we are talking about projects outside CSNY and not strictly solo efforts. But even if we are Neil would still occupy my top 12, there is just no comparing creatively, it's head and toes.

Stephen Stills is my personal favorite bandmember, but I think I'll have to go with Neil Young for Harvest on this one. They all put out great solo albums, but I think Neil Young's are the strongest song-for-song. Stephen Stills put out a ton of great songs throughout the early 70's, but they're all spaced out across the two self-titled albums and Manassas, leaving each individual album feeling slightly weaker than your average Neil Young record from the time period. If I Could Only Remember My Name is a really enjoyable and unique album, but it's definitely not as strong in a traditional sense as some of the stuff the other members put out. As for Graham Nash, I've never thought Songs For Beginners lived up to what the other three members put out contemporaneously, but I do really enjoy Wild Tales, though still not quite as much as a lot of the other albums.

I usually still consider Neil w/C.H. as solo Neil, he wrote it all and takes every solo, drums are never that prominent, though technically band records......Manassas is good as are some of each CSN members solo records....but I'd still assert that Neil has 3 netter albums at minimum..... Take CH out and it gets less simple........
    That's arguable, but I ain't disagreein'

yeah good point. Those albums are neil young albums, with a backing band, as gracious as he is about it. And Im just having fun, I dont consider my opinion to be everyone's. But personally I didnt have much interest in the other guys post csny work, i liked all of their pre csny work though. Different strokes different folks

Like others, I'll go with Crosby's debut--there is absolutely nothing calculated about it, but all the pieces fit in an intersection of time, space, and talent that I honestly do not find elsewhere in the catalog of the other three. Doesn't hurt when your lead guitar players are Neil Young and Jerry Garcia---not many can corral that talent, or had the chance to, as Crosby did back then.

I can't decide between Manassas or Tonight's The Night. I don't do solo Crosby or Nash if I can avoid it.

A shout for Stephen Stills 2 - as it's excellent throughout and as good as any of his other solo or Manassas stuff... if not that then I'd go for Time Fades Away ...or Lighthouse ...no Nash gets any where near ...

No contest. Neil Young (Harvest, On the Beach)...

I liked "Illegal Stills" and a couple songs from Manasas. A couple from Nash (Prison Song, And So It Goes)

Stephen Stills’ Manassas is better than anything any of them did, as a group or solo. Remove “Y” from the question to make this a less contentious assertion.
