I caught most of a program on a nicely done documentary of Cuban music last night. Such a history of great innovative artists and their different styles including some dance. Just incredible rootsy jazz playing throughout and often showing the street bands performing. Incredible ear & (high def) eye candy. I want more please!
Was this by any chance Calle 54? If not, you should rent or buy the DVD since this is also a very good documentary about Latin music. Not necessarily Cuban, but featuring some Cuban musicians including Paquito D'Rivera and Chucho Valdes. The segment with Gato Barbieri is particularly good, both for his comments on why he took a low profile for many years and his performance which is stunning. Highly recommended.
This one was 'Rhythms of Cuba' and it'll probably be shown again. Most of Discovery Theater's programming comes round' multiple times. Thanks for the tip on 'Calle 54', I haven't seen that one yet.
