    I agree with JeffBonie.

Larry David is great. It makes you realize how much of Seinfeld was him and not Jerry Seinfeld. Larry is funny, opinionated, and cranky, just like my dad. That must be why I get a kick out of it. It's dry humor and you can see Larry getting into these huge ordeals and the whole time you are thinking "no, no, no" but you cant stop him because it's a tv show.

    Spoiler Alert!

I thought the ending of this season was absolutely brilliant. I was sure Larry was going to totally screw up in The Producers and CYE would end badly. I loved how the ending followed the theme of Mel Brooks' classic and was actually uplifting tieing everything together. I felt like standing up and applauding, but would have felt silly alone in my bedroom.

Seinfeld "jumped the shark" when David left; the character of George Costanza is said to be mainly based on him.

This is a funny show, but you need to watch one episode at a time.

Just been watching the 'Wagner' episode again, so funny.

  5. Ron, I didn't like, didn't get the first two episodes. I found it rather annoying. Then I thought I'd give it one more try. My older brother had taped the episode with Shaquille O'Neal, where everything starts to go right for Larry David, and convinced me to watch it. I'm glad I did.

When Larry and his wife Cheryl go into a yuppy coffee shop and Larry says to the server, "My wife will have one of those vanilla bull***** things", I lost it. I laughed so hard I was in tears. Haven't laughed that much since the days of Seinfeld and Larry Sanders.

I loved "Seinfeld" but can't abide by "Curb..." "Seinfeld" was meanspirited, but the actors were so charming... I get uncomfortable just seeing Larry David.

As for "Friends", Jon Stewart summed up my feelings nicely: "I never watch it and I'm sick of it!"

David's comic shtick is based on making you feel uncomfortable. Albert Brooks works in a similar vein. Remember the scene in Lost in America where he tries to get the casino owner to give him back the nest egg?

Wha?? How can you tell by the synopsis that you won't like the show. That's a pretty quick judgement.

Good point. But when Jason Alexander (as George) or Albert B does something creepy, it's still amusing to watch. With Larry David, I don't perceive it as fun, so I'm not gonna spend time/money watching him. For me there's no entertainment value in pure discomfort.
Guess it's just a matter of taste.

For me, Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of the best reasons to own a TV.

Remember the "doll head" episode? In anyone else's hands, this sub-plot probably wouldn't work but Larry and the writers pulled it off brilliantly (no pun intended). :)

Does anyone here have any information on how much of the show is scripted? I often wonder if they leave room for improvisation since the show has an "improv" feel to it.

from what I've read, David starts with about a page of ideas. he and the cast talk about it, then pretty much make up the lines as they shoot, keeping in mind the basic structure. I can't begin to imagine how difficult that has to be.

    the doll episode was classic!

"No snacks? Someties we didn't eat for a month. We had to eat trees. You call yourself a 'survivor?' He's mocking me!"

    Funniest show on television.

Another comedy that leaves you grimacing at the TV is the BBC program "The Office". David Brent reminds me of a Larry David....the things that come out of his mouth are jaw-dropping.
