D'Angelo - "Black Messiah" (15-Dec-2014)

He has a reputation for cancelling shows. The last London show on the Black Messiah tour was cancelled as well.

 

He and Morrissey should tour together.

 

Yes, I am just hoping he canceled for "D'Angelo reasons" and not for anything serious. Hope he is healthy and in a good mental state.

I say "as expected" because only a few pages ago in this thread I mentioned how I resisted planning a Euro-trip around these shows because of the high probability they'd be canceled. I am saddened to see it pan out the way it did. The world's musical landscape is much stronger when D'Angelo is active.

 

Even though the vinyl is cut from Hi-Res, what a tremendous sounding album. Agree?

 

I haven't actually had a cancellation email yet for the Hammersmith Apollo show. I've found one reference on Twitter to it only being the Amsterdam shows that have been cancelled and that a second email was sent out clarifying this.

Can any of our Dutch friends shed any light?

 

OK got a message saying the London show has been rescheduled to 21 June. Postponed is better than cancelled I guess!

Also confirms that his band will once again feature Pino, Sharkey and JJ, with Karriem Riggins on the skins. Incredibly tempted to hit up one of those shows!

 

Awesome. Adding Karriem Riggins is a good call. I wonder if that'll affect the ability of August Greene (Riggins' new band with Robert Glasper and Common) to tour?

 

I saw this earlier. I’m glad D is following through with his shows. I really hope we get album 4 this year. *prayers going up*

 

Is Jesse Johnson still playing in D's band?

 

I really hope so. If not, I’ll miss him and Chris Dave.

I was thinking about this too. Their album is dope btw. Maybe he’s going to figure out a way to balance both. Or maybe August Greene will be done touring by the time D goes on tour at the end of June. (I’m thinking they might go on a short tour) Hmm..

 

So he cancelled his summer tour due to health reasons.

D'Angelo's friends don't leak personal details. And D keeps things close. You never really know what's going on with him. Pray for D.

 

BAH. Six months rest on ‘doctor’s orders’. Looks like we won’t be hearing from D until 2019. What a bummer. Hope he’s alright.

 

This is not great news. Sincerely hope too it is absolutely not due to some serious thing going thru D's life...

 

I really wanted a new album this year, but I dunno if that’s likely. I’ll just keep being patient and optimistic.
