I just watched the David Bowie doc on Showtime and WOW! I'm blown away.. Amazing telling of the period from Hunky Dory through the Thin White Duke era.

    Highly recommended

I was particularly taken by the the sound editing done with present-day interviews of Rick Wakeman, Mick Ronson, et al. and the original songs. Some really cool versions of classic Bowie tunes throughout.

Has anyone else seen or discussed this yet?

It's fantastic. The best documentary ever done on the guy ( although Cracked Actor is pretty good). A must watch if you are a fan.

I like that great footage of David, Luther Vandross, Ava Cherry and Robin Clark rehearsing the complex harmonies to 'Right' in the studio.

I love it when he recites the lines "We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town.... BEEP BEEP".
It's also interesting when Fripp talks about his contributions to "Heroes".

Never seen the footage of him in NYC with Andy Warhol before. Great scene of him performing a mime, pulling his guts out!

    Just watched it...a few thoughts:

    1) I assumed that, given the title, it would be a film about a 5-year period in Bowie's career--say, 1971-76. It wasn't. It was a chronicle of 5 different one-year periods.

    2) As such, the film covers a lot of ground in an hour.

    3) I loved the interviews with Fripp, Visconti, Alomar, Davis, Cherry, Slick, etc. The filmmakers talked to a lot of folks central to the Bowie story.

    4) I think I need to play some Bowie now :).

Watched this a couple times. Not a huge Bowie fan and not really familiar with his 70's work outside of the singles but this is a fascinating documentary. The footage of him performing on Soul Train is something else.

    Great documentary.

I definitely need to reassess Young Americans and Let's Dance.

I watched this the other day and only had two complaints: 1) it wasn't long enough and 2) why wasn't Bowie himself featured more in it, other than old interview footage and some voiceover which might have been old too? I did love that the interviewed the musicians heavily and got their take on the sound but it would have been nice to hear some from the man himself.

I did give Young Americans another listen after this, I still don't like it or need to own it. I've also never liked Let's Dance but I played Hunky Dory the other day and love it more than ever.

For the most part, he hasn't done an interview and the general public haven't heard Bowie's speaking voice in about 7+ years.

Make you own conclusions or maybe he thinks the "untouchable/other worldly/mysterious" thing works in his favor right now. Or he hates showbiz beyond dropping an album with only 4 promo photos/videos and a list of friends that can interviewed.

It's amazing the amount of creativity that came out of him in so short a time period.
