Looks like a great package. But it begs the question, how many of these have to be sold to make a profit for Bowie. 10,000? The reason I ask is I would be more interested in the next 5 years,. I hope this package sells well, so they can release the next batch.
Looks like Ziggy and Aladdin Sane are the 40th Anniversary versions while the rest of the studio albums are new 2015 remasters. http://www.davidbowie.com/news/five-years-1969-1973-box-set-due-september-54571 DAVID BOWIE FIVE YEARS 1969 – 1973 6 Original Studio Albums: David Bowie AKA Space Oddity* The Man Who Sold The World* Hunky Dory* The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars Aladdin Sane PinUps* *New 2015 Remasters. 2 Live Albums: Live Santa Monica ‘72 Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture Soundtrack
Yes both of them, the new mix on vinyl LP for the first time (previously on the DVD-A that came with the 40th LP) All I want to know is if the new pressing of the 40th Ann. LP will still be 100% analog like before...
Yea, Christmas 2016 or something. And who knows, maybe they'll find something left over at the bottom of the vaults
Exciting to say the least. I highly doubt these will be AAA but I'm still willing to give 'em a chance.
Amazon France has the vinyl set up at 250 euros (roughly $280). Should go down somewhat, but that gives a general idea as to how much it will cost. The CD box is listed as 132 euros.
I think they are serious about releasing a series of box sets, but they may all be different sizes and may not be broken down into five-year intervals. Maybe the "Berlin" trilogy will be a 3box set--plus a a CD or 2 devoted to out-takes and different mixes. It just occurred to me that June 2017 will mark the 50th Anniversary of the release of David Bowie's actual debut album. That's less than two years away, so maybe Five Years is the opening salvo in a marketing campaign to celebrate his career. Perhaps it will be capped off with yet another compilation entitled Fifty Years. Or perhaps not....
Definitive reissue on vinyl by the original recording producer Ken Scott and remastered 100% analog by original engineer Ray Staff from the Original Analog Master Tapes at AIR Mastering Studios in the UK. And it sounds great, really great, I sold my original and kept the reissue (talking about The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars 40th Anniversary 180g LP)
Indeed...and why include 'Velvet Goldmine' if they are going for stuff only 'released' (or planned to be released) during 1969-1973? It was released in 1975 as a bonus track on the #1 'Space Oddity' EP!!
I've been reliably informed there are a further two box sets in this series covering 1974-1977, and 1978-1989. Based on that info, at a guess it could look like:- Box 2: Diamond Dogs David Live Young Americans (and probably 2007 Visconti Mix) Station To Station (and probably 2010 Maslin Mix) Nassau Live 76 Low Heroes Re:call2 Box 3: Stage Lodger Scary Monsters Let's Dance Tonight Never Let Me Down Glass Spider Live Montreal 87 Tin Machine Re:call3 This way you continue to get two live albums and roughly 12 or 13 discs per box. Personally, the Five Years box is missing a couple of essentials. I can see why they're saving outtakes for a future collection, but if they're going to include Velvet Goldmine then they should have included the B-side remix of JIOD issued in 1979 and the Glastonbury Fayre LP version of Supermen, esp as they even mention the festival in the press release!
