After a couple of disks have come up on eBay and changed hands for (what I think) is a LOTTA money. I have done a bit of a comparison on my sources and drawn up this little table with online suppliers (the only type I can take advantage of in the UK), the number of titles they stocked at the time I looked and the average price per title. There is quite a spread which given the equalising effect I believed the internet was going to exert on pricing I find quite interesting (but then I find some quite weird stuff interesting ;) ) - and before anyone asks yes I do have too much time on my hands :D

    Supplier Titles Avg per Title

    www.Griffco.com 60 $61.44
    www.acousticsounds.com 32 $32.97
    www.RedTrumpet.com 3 $19.32
    www.MyMusicFix.com 104 $71.89
    www.audiophiles.at 22 $44.55
    www.VinylRev.com 37 $42.77
    www.Amusicdirect.com 82 $65.50
    www.audiophileusa.com 35 $35.40
    www.GottaHaveItmusic.com 37 $64.31
    www.CDConnection.com 27 $28.16
    www.CDNow.com 4 $26.07
    www.elusivedisc.com 22 $30.44
    www.mymusic.com 5 $30.74
    www.WalMart.com 5 $29.88
    www.CyberCD.de 45 $49.67
    www.DccBlowout.com 24 $20.87
    www.MusicForASong.com 21 $11.30
    www.cheap-cds.com 14 $23.30
    www.DeepDiscountCD.com 46 $25.65
    www.MFSLCDS.COM 48 $65.00

I don't want anyone spending too much now ;) - Andrew

Just picked up DCC Everlys Greatest for $22.00 including air mail to the UK from acoustic sounds. Thanks Ginger! Can't wait.

I guess they don't have the same titles in their stock, so what could be the meaning of the average price?

BTW, is it that difficult to find (used or new) DCC or MFSL CDs in the UK?

    Hi Joachim

Some of the retailers are consistently twice the price of other outlets  People probably do buy from them and although they may not get the volume of turnover they have a more comfortable margin.

I only know of one source in the United Kingdom that seems to have more than one or two DCC or MFSL CD titles in at any time :( and another one that has a few MFSL vinyl records (I see them bidding on eBay for things from time to time as well - but they do not snipe :D ). If any of my compatriots could share other sources I would be very grateful.

Is the situation much better on the continent ?

    All the besy - Andrew

I can only speak for Germany. Well, I could find a lot of MFSL and DCC gold CDs in the last two years. And I missed a couple of nice opportunities ...

There are two German websites which offer almost the complete MFSL and DCC CD catalogue but their prices are very high.

Better options are checking eBay.de and second-hand record shops. That of course costs a lot of time but from time to time one can find a few nice items. ;)

Er, virtually impossible. I've sourced most of my recent DCC and MFSL purchases from Griffco in the US (and what I could get from Amazon.com, CDNow, etc circa 1998/99) although I did pick up a few titles from the big HMV and Tower Records stores in London a few years back. Before the mid-90s I found it was really hard getting hold of this stuff in the UK as nobody seemed to be importing it. There is a specialist importer in the London area called Vivante but they're a relatively new outfit and had only been operating a short time when the likes of MFSL started to go out of business.

In Toronto, it's all but dried up and only used stuff comes into used CD stores. But there can be some amazing pickings!

I have a bunch of stuff I bought but I don't want. I should probably list 'em for sale or something. Like a scratchy Queen / The Game on MFSL. But who'd want it? "shrug"

    Oh well....

Just picked up DCC Wheels of Fire Friday the 5th, for $40 US sealed, really sounds good. Alas it is not the 13 track disc 1 version - but I am very happy. Picked up at my local shoppe - he wanted $48, but reduced it to $40 for Uncle. He also has DCC Doors ST and Strange Days - as well as the 2 disc MFSL Cream live I and II, and Goodbye.

P.S via edit - Deserted Cities of the Heart on the DCC just blew a hole through my wall - just about the best dynamics I ever heard on CD.

    Andrew,

Thanks for the list...it is quite impressive!! I appreciate your concern about others being ripped off on DCC prices. It appears that your calculations are quite correct. Again...thanks!!!

Is "Deserted Cities of the Heart" an album? If so what is the name of the artist? Thanks.
