Something I just noticed on the DCC "Endless Summer Cd.

At the very end of "I Get Around" there is an oscillating organ figure underscoring the vocal. Its a typical Brian Wilson trademark thing , but I never noticed it until I got the DCC disk!~!

Most engineers will fade out the fade out, so to speak.

But, I just let 'em ride out on their own until the music is totally gone, and then I "fader down"....So my endings usually go on a few seconds or so longer.

That is indeed a neat organ part! ;)

    Stupid question.

    What does "fader down" mean?

    Thanks.

I think Steve is just saying that some engineers will start to fade out the track as the pre-existing fadeout on the tape comes. Why? So you can't hear that hiss at the end of the fade out - the music fades to black, not to hiss.

Steve, on the other hand, plays the tape till all the music is gone, *then* fades down. You can hear the hiss, but you also hear more music.

One opposite example - on some HDCD discs I've heard, the hiss actually *rises* a bit at the very end of the fade-out. I guess the mastering engineer wanted to present every last drop...
