Just a quick wish (or Christmas present from DCC!?! ;) ): I hope that Steve's "20" list of repressings will include McCartney.

Just saw Ram for $68.00 sealed. Ouch!

BTW, I found a couple of copies of Red Rose Speedway for $55.00 CAD plus taxes. Sealed. But that's Canadian $ so it's not toooo to bad, I guess.

In Canada, does buying a CD (with regards to economy and cost of living) feel like a ream job, or is paying full price not so bad?

    Not being sarcastic.

I too think that a repress of Maccas would be a wonderful thing. I only have a CDR of McCartney, and I play that one the most.

RAM is very good though. It's ALMOST worth $65 bucks, actually...

Well you have to realize that the depressed Canadian dollar means bargooons for us. Remember Who's Next? $9.99 at the store is full price. The remastered Who's Next is about $18.99 in Canada.

Can you get the remaster for $18.99 in the US? Probably. To buy $19.00 US, I have to spend about $29.50 CAD. And duties and taxes payable at the border when I bring it back. You lucky guys can bring back $200.00 US (or over $300.00 CAD) back with you anytime. We can bring back $40.00 CAD on a day trip. Whooopeee ****.

There's been talk about raising the prices in Canada on stock CDs to equal the US normal prices. But who would pay $30.00 for a stock (and probably horribly remastered) CD? No one. Thank goodness for good old Competition.

And US $ eBay prices just kill ya! $65.00 is over $100.00 CAD. Can you say *OUCH!* ?

But $55.00 CAD for a sealed DCC Red Rose Speedway is worth it! ;)

We won't talk about taxes here or I'll go on a very nasty rant....

I know Canadians get raped for CDRs, that's for sure. Average price for me is like 85c for average Phophylinene (sic) or Azio's go for about $1.20ea. Canadians almost pay 3X for each.

Sorry to hear your music dollar is somewhat comprimised. Do your used record stores yeild anything interesting usually?

"Ram" is definitely a title I'd love to get if it gets re-pressed. I have the DCC pressing of "McCartney" and I love how it sounds. The title I really want and would like to avoid paying a mint for it is Elvis' "24 Karat Hits". Just found copies of the Everly Brothers and Roy Orbison "Greatest Hits" discs and they sound so wonderful that they practically brought tears to my eyes. I hope some of these previous titles will become available again.

Sckott they used to yield a lot more rock in' roll records but now it just seems to be a lot of those 90's garage wanna be bands. Cds absolutely zip. Vinyl you stand a lot better chance but these used places really know what people want and aren't afraid to charge you accordingly, if you get my drift.

How about CD prices in the UK? When I was in London at the end of '94/beginning of '95, I think CDs were about 14 or 15 UKP new. I picked up the Pink Floyd remasters, which hadn't hit the US yet, on sale for 11.99 (I think) and, at that time, 1 UKP = $1.68. You do the math. I was shocked that even used CDs were circa 9 UKP. I can get used CDs all day long around here for $8 or $9 still.

That said, I did get some great buys on vinyl in London -- original mono Parlophone Pepper and Oldies for 12 UKP and a Macca Unplugged vinyl for 3 UKP.

Sckott, with eBay everywhere you either have to find 1) a place that does not do "eBay" selling (I know of one) or 2) a place that does not like MFSL or audiophile stuff. I found one of those too. Pretty amazing....

I've found DCC Band on the Run, Venus and Mars, Red Octopus, some jazz titles and a whole slew of MFSL titles including Traffic, Rush, The Who (Tommy, Quadrophinia) and others. All for under $30.00 CAD. Bargoon city! But I have to admit that Buffalo NY has a much, much, MUCH better selection than anything I've seen here in Canada!

Speaking of MFSLs..... J Buffet, White Sportcoat, UD2, Gain System, DSD, has been sitting across the street for two weeks now. Anyone want it? $30.00 CAD.

PS And I found the Uriah Heep Castle Remasters (M. Birthday and Demons & Wizards)for $22.99 each recently! That's "full price" for an import from England. Yea, I know, but I don't think Castles are as bad as some others. I've not heard them yet.... And I do have the domestic releases, too.

A used CD costs me $12.00 CAD. Not too bad!

Yes Dave, it IS cheaper out in Vancouver. Lucky guy!

Wow. Buy the Quadrophenia. The sound isn't anything to write home about, but the disk set itself is worth a lot of money. The packaging is very good. I think this was MoFi's first attempt to add content to justify the high price ($49.95). When MoFi first released this two disk set, it was their first long term two disk version. (The Wall was released about 10/90 for a one year run and was pretty much out of print once it was released)

John Buchanan I'm just a headphone kind of fellow. Stax Sigma

The sound sure isn't anything to write home about. The packaging is not terrific except for the slip case. The booklet pictures are, as usual with MoFi, a little out of focus. Luke will possibly disagree with me, but I would suggest the remaster. White Fang over at alt.music.who would suggest the Japanese version of the remaster as the best - I've not heard it.
Isn't Tommy's (from LAL deluxe)sound wonderful - said as running out the door with a big sarcastic grin ;)

    Guys,
I don't agree with you 100% on Quadrophinia. Admited it could have been a little better but it still sounds quite impressive.

Are you guys listening to the UD1 version or the UD2 version? ;)

I'm listening to the UD1 and I can say whole heartedly, it's not that impressive. It's nice, and I liked some of the packaging ideas MFSL had, but this one is a bit under water. The remaster on MCA is a lot better and I enjoy that record quite a bit. Do you own the MCA remaster?

The DVD for the movie has been out for a while. Tommy and the gang, anyone bought it? Is it poop?

Jimmy Buffett's "A White Sports Coat" for $30.00 across the street? I'd grab it if I were you. Nice sounding disc. Great album too, Parrotheads.

Speaking of used 'audiophile' items, I've been on a tear lately. Just in the last two weeks or so:

King Crimson Islands JPN press w/obi $8
    Macca Ram DCC $20
Blood, Sweat, and Tears MFSL CD $23
    Rush 2112 MFSL CD $13
Who Who Are You MSFL CD $10
Allmans Brothers and Sisters MFSL CD $12

    Recently:

DCC Waiting for the Sun $16
Pink Floyd Meddle MFSL CD $27

    Earlier this year, I got:

    Tommy MFSL (don't remember)
    Quadrophenia MFSL (as above)
Tull Thick as a Brick MFSL $17
Trower Bridge of Sighs MFSL $13
Procul Harum Broken Barricades MFSL $5 or $6 (ridiculously cheap)
Seger Night Moves DCC $8 (yes, $8)
    Satriani MFSL sealed $15

Over the years, I actually managed to get two MFSL Walls second-hand for $30 and $36. I sold one for profit years ago, but I sort of wish I'd kept it. I still have the longbox for the copy I kept. Ahh, collecting.
