Thanks for all the feedback, I didn't realise that, I'll just buy them now (glad I didn't go for the Ebay option!)
Taking another look at that original Italian list, this is where we currently stand in the UK: Titles we’ve lost (so far): 3. Standards Vol I - Keith Jarrett 10. Something Else!!! - Ornette Coleman 11. It Could Happen To You - Chet Baker 12. Saxophone Colossus - Sonny Rollins 16. Brillant Corners - Thelonious Monk 20. Bright Size Light - Pat Metheny Group 25. The Wee Small Hours - Frank Sinatra 27. Incredible! - Wes Montgomery 31. Meets The Rhythm Section - Art Pepper 37. Coleman Hawkins - Night Hawk 38. Modern Jazz Quartet - Django 40. Max Roach - Deeds Not Wars 43. Bill Evans - Portrait in Jazz Titles we’ve gained: 17. Alfie - Sonny Rollins 18. Trio ’64 - Bill Evans 19. New York Is Now! - Ornette Coleman 22. Soul Station - Hank Mobley 36. Quiet as it’s Kept - Max Roach Plus Four 42. Misterioso - Thelonious Monk Quartet
Bright Size Life Shame that wasn't included - it's a fantastic LP. I'm holding out for Art Blakey's Drum Suite , which is on the long list, but could disappear I guess....
DeAgostini have got back to me this morning regarding my 'premium' subscription. They claim that there’s a second storage box coming to me at the end of the series. They also reveal through this information that there will only be 70 releases, though I thought it had gone up to 100. In any case, they want to charge me 70 pounds for a couple of really crappy wooden boxes? I think not.
They really are crappy - not worth it. Bit disappointed we're not going to get the ton up. Knowing them, they're probably wrong..
I'll blame the typos on the Italian DeAgostini website It appears that the UK version won't include anything from ECM.
I've been a big Pat Metheny fan since I was a boy, so luckily already own Bright Size Life (and about 20 other PMG records!).
Far too long. I've always been waiting three to four weeks. It's unjustifiable as they are only posted from Newcastle. They are crap!
Yet another DeAgostini shambles. I ordered issue number 40 - Joe Henderson - Page One. Then wait ages only to receive a parcel with number 41 - Horace Silver - Song For My Father this morning. I hate this company. Their ineptitude is beyond belief.
Having said that above, the Horace Silver pressing is stunning. It sounds wonderful with no surface noise at all. I had this one on CD for the extras but this is a very nice record. It's a shame DeAgostini are such a frustrating company to deal with as the records are flawless and a very good deal. I've been impressed with every one I've bought. Hopefully I'll get the Joe Henderson one soon.
Hi all, I've been picking and choosing a few issues from the DeAgostini 'back orders' store. So far I have bought Blue Train, Kind of Blue, Take Five and Mingus Ah Um. This is some of the first jazz I have listened to, and so far 'Blue Train' is my favourite, but I have enjoyed them all. Can anyone who has subscribed recommend the next best records of the series to me, both from a music and sound quality perspective? I am keen to explore the genre more widely and these seems like a good value way to do so.
The Blues and the Abstract Truth, Something Else, Sketches of Spain, Cool Struttin. Ones that are a little bit more out there, Live in Greenwich Village, Out to Lunch.
For something different Sarah Vaughan is excellent if you think you'll like vocal jazz. The Clifford Brown - Study In Brown one is excellent and accessible.
