Just deleted 12.000+ digital files including CD rips, HD Tracks purchases and downloads from Usenet. If I can't physically touch it, I no longer want it. I realized the greatest joy I get from my music collection is flipping through the hundreds of LP's and browsing my CD rack with close to 1,000 discs brings me more pleasure and satisfaction then browsing files on my computer. To make sure they are totally gone, I deleted all backups and reformatted all backup disks. I will never have time in my remaining life to listen to even 10% of my physical media so why so I need all the 1000's of digital files. Gone are the worries of backups and dealing with programs and utilities to manage the digital files. I will maintain a Pandora Premium account for causal listening in the car since it does not have a CD player.

all good as long as you don’t regret it. Reads a bit like giving up something that you wouldn’t be able to let go of without destroying it.

It would be hard for me to delete the purchased hd tracks and all the time I have spent building my jukebox.

Streaming is a good substitute for volume of rips.

Can’t go back to spinning discs only. Love the ease of use of pc audio.

Sigh...digital is just another format, with its own advantages and disadvantages. That sounds like a sort of misguided bravado to me. So now you’ve saved all that hard drive space for what exactly?

Saved it for nothing...not concerned with HD space.

Another positive to this is that I don't need to wait for my slow Mac to boot up to get the tunes playing :bdance:

I couldn't imagine doing this. I have tons of ROIO's, many of mine own, and quite a few others that no one knew about till they crossed my hands. Sure, I can burn them, which I do with my masters. I'd hate to lose one due to an HD taking a dump.

Regarding legit material, I agree. I want it on CD.

  19. You get my nod for SHF member of the month award. You are spot on. I have said this many times; I don’t collect files, I collect music. Which to me means a physical media. I peruse my library/collection, put it in my hands, look at booklet, then to the CD player and push play. The same ritual which I used to do with LP’s and has the same effect which hits me like a drug, a pre-contact high before the music takes me away . . . Good for you! :righton:

The only stuff I really care about is the music only available digitally. Like the live show downloads included in the Blue Oyster Cult box set. Its not like I can pick up the CD, because it doesn't exist.

Music is music whether it comes from a hard drive, vinyl, CD or cassette. It is sound waves that you are hearing and your brain is processing.

    100%.

OP is a hero, as far as I'm concerned.
We should be singing folk songs about him.
