Moved the room around, still fine tuning, this is a work in progress. Not an unsubtle improvement in sound, big gains in bass, sound-stage depth and width... speakers about 40" from rear wall, 27" from side walls in this pic. More changes to come, I'll post when I can.

How far apart are the speakers now?

I'm sure it's a lot better. These speakers love space. I recently listened to the set-up below and it was very convincing. Powered by the 15 wpc Leben by the way. One ballsy amp.

The great thing about reworking a room is that even if the flow and human use elements are not as good and you go back, you get to hear the optimum within that space, which really helps—knowing those compromises.

That looks way better Rafe. I bet the lack of a hard wall right behind your head when listening has made a huge improvement! I found that to be the case in the past.

That's a perfect room for AN-E's. Just move that lamp.

This gives a bit better idea of the distance from the listening position on the sofa:

    Okay, honesty time:

I'm much more interested in the couch than I am in the stereo. That thing looks waaaay comfier than my Torquemada Special. Details would be appreciated.

I would imagine that heavy drapes over the window would further improve the sound. My very large screen TV was about the same distance behind the speakers as your windows and coering it with drapes really improved the imaging by preventing reflections.

Nice looking set-up Rafe. I do like the finish on those speakers.

I love my women slim and sexy but I want my speakers fat and ugly. I'd heard some nice Tannoy prestige speakers today - it sorta depends how your ear takes the dual concentric sound. But once the ear adjusts I found them quite amiable and kept me sitting longer than usual. But they may be too hard to drive from what I've read on them.

Tannoy is not the only dual concentric game in town.

Ahh!! Great; I'll be very interested to read about living with the AN-E's vs. the O's! Kind of the ultimate speaker shootout. All Hail the wide baffle!

I'd put the second lamp in the left-hand corner ;) (sorry, I'm a s**ker for symmetry).

Enjoy the experimentation, Rafe! (I'm listening to an FM broadcast of some live jazz recordings on German radio right now - some unknown American sax player (Larry Popkin?) with Lennie Tristano's daughter Carol on bass previously and talented French trumpeter Stéphane Belmondo at the moment.)

It depends on the specific Tannoy, but, yes, most of them suck current. Even the most friendly of Tannoys tend to prefer a little bit of juice.

In Audionote terms, you'll have better luck with a Soro than an Oto.

    Or, perhaps, a Jinro Shochu . . . .

And no, I haven't been to hear them yet. ;-)

Might be just the ticket, but I'd guess it would be borderline with most of the currently manufactured Tannoys. It'd probably be the nazz with a pair of 10" Reds, though.

Huh. I just realized that I've never tried a 211 with Tannoys. Remind me to get on that in my copious free time.
