Wasn't the Beastie Boys Video Anthology DVD considered amazing when it was released. I still don't think I ever watched/heard everything on that dvd. I'm glad they did it.

Spoiler? More like tip, don't watch.

Yea it's too late to edit, my mistake on the actress (not Streep) or add a spoiler tag.

I haven't seen Armageddon since I saw Deep Impact and they seemed very similar, but Armageddon did seem like a weird choice.

I haven't seen The Rock either, but most people who have seen it said it was enjoyable.

I enjoyed the scene where Nicolas Cage showed he was a serious record collector by paying a fortune for a mid-70s stereo US pressing of 'Rubber Soul'

What is this, morality police in a movie thread?? Big Chill may not be a classic, but there are way worse movies listed here. Shall we all give "don't watch" tips now :cop:

Probably. (I might be confusing it with a scene from 'The Sopranos') It's been a few decades since I've seen it. (And; no. I didn't buy the Criterion DVD)

For the past few years, Criterion has done something like 20 IFC Films titles on initial home video release. IFC also does Blu-rays with MPI, but if something seems to have more of a prestige reputation (like the recent "Two Days, One Night"), it appears to go out via Criterion. This deal has also brought them access to catalog titles like "Y Tu Mama Tambien" and Errol Morris' "The Thin Blue Line."

  11. You of course answer your own question here. Plus, Lena Dunham.

  13. I wouldn't have for either but I'm glad they did. Own 'em both. Anything in the Corman/Bartel vein deserves it! if we could only get Joe Dantes' Hollywood Blvd. I'd be set.

Likewise I'm surprised my all time favorite movie made the cut: Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. I'm also surprised Universal licensed it out.

...I'm still a little miffed about the SFX though on the blu ray. There's a single hort toot that I remember hearing when the littler person walks under the lady's dress in Casino, Casino but I haven't heard it in any of the blu ray audio mixes!

  14. Either way they've done both. Some titles are questionable (that's subjective though), however they've released discs that tarnish, had to recall releases with incorrect aspect ratios, and fudged some color timings. However these are not common, so they remain a favorite of mine. Hoping to get Apu for Christmas!

  15. Did you watch the BB video anthology? As far as I'm concerned that release is the EPITOME of a Criterion release.

  16. What's a shame is that they couldn't get a better release of Hardboiled. The original elements are in shambles though, so for some releases Criterion's contribution was more to the extras than the PQ/AQ of the film itself.

  17. Bah. Same difference. :p

  18. On this front: anyone know if they ever issued a corrected version of The Ruling Class? I don't recall where it was - haven't watched it in some time - but there was a rather jarring bit of film damage in there that I was surprised a company like Criterion would leave in.

Hey, that was 1996. It was not exactly en vogue to be seeing that, so it was way cool, no matter what freakin' record or pressing it was!

Oh, right! I'd forgotten Criterion had put that out. Actually, pretty much forgotten it even existed. It was not good.

A few years I reminiscing with a friend that back in 1970 we would watch "Island of Lost Souls" and figure it was some moldy old film. 45 years later it's on blu-ray with interviews and commentary tracks.
