DCC Archive Did DCC ever release Dire Straits: On Every Street?

If so how is it?

DCC has not released any Dire Straits yet, so the best copy you can get is the new remastered version. It a little better the orginal release, there is better bass and placement but some have said it was a little bright, but I liked it. But if Steve was to do a DS albums Making Movies, Brother in Arms or On Every Street would be the best titles.

 

A DCC ver. of Brothers In Arms would be interesting, as the latest Warner remaster is very, very good, imo.

This guy on an ebay auction "Dire Straits collectables" under the dcc gold section says he's got two copies of this album. Do you know for sure that this is BS?

 

Brothers In Arms is a digital recording... I strongly doubt Steve will do that!!!

In Australia they sometime reissue CD when people tour there, I got Green and Out Of Time when R.E.M. toured for the Monster album. But I don't think they were remastered (but they have good sound). I asked Steve about doing Dire Striats titles a year ago and he said he would like to, but he would have to get around the WB people before he could get to the tapes and could not get them from Polygram (there label for the rest of the world). If that had changed I think Steve would have said something!

Also, SRV - In Step was digital, and the remaster w/bonus tracks improves on the original.

 

In Step was recorded digitally and then mixed to 1/4" analog. This could be the case with Brothers In Arms. Dunno.

Dire Straits' "On Every Street" is my number 1 favorite all-time recording...

While we're on Dire Straits, please do not forget "Love Over Gold" which is my all time favorite. I think Mark really put his "heart and soul" into that one... As the title implies, this was stuff he wanted to do without regard as to whether it would sell massive copies. Yummy!

 

Since this post got dragged back to the top, was On Every Street ever released on vinyl? If so, I've gotta find a copy; all the other Dire Straits albums sound so much better on LP than CD...

I still get amused every time I think about Bose(tm) successfully suing Thiel. I bet Thiel doesn't.

 

On Every Street was released on vinyl, although it is VERY hard to find...you don't even see many listed for sale on eBay.

I happened to find a copy in a San Francisco record store while I was there on business a couple of years ago ($3.50 and mint!). The release number is WB 9 26680-1 but the copyright is 1991 Phonogram Ltd. (London).

Although, I absolutely love this DS release, it's been awhile since I listened to the vinyl (the remastered CD is VERY good).

I'll try to find some time to compare the two and post some further information here.

 

When, and fer what, did Bose sue Thiel? That's wrong on so many levels.

 

How about the Brothers In Arms on JVC XRCD .Any listened to this one?

 

From the Bose FAQ:

"*Bose sued Theil (sic) to prevent them from naming their speakers with a .2, since Bose also named one of their speakers with a .2, and Bose felt that this might lead consumers to confuse Bose with Theil. Anyone familiar with the Bose and Theil brand names, and the vast differences in their target audience, considers this extremely unlikely."

Yeah, I was just in the "high end" Audio Showroom the other day, and I was comparing the Bose to the Thiel. Other than the fact that one sounded like **** and the other sounded great, I could hardly tell them apart...
