Did Paul, Ringo, Yoko & Olivia REALLY sign off on Let it Be...Naked?

I've always found it strange that all four parties signed off on the release of LIB Naked. It really is such a Paul-centric project, knowing how displeased he was with Phil Spector's production. I could maybe see Ringo and Olivia not caring one way or the other, but always thought Yoko would have nixed this idea. Your thoughts?

Nothing gets released without the approval of all four.

I know, I was being kind of snarky in my original post. I just think of all the projects that havebeen released this would have gotten the old veto.

I am not intending to bash Yoko in any way, I just always thought that this was an example of Yoko adhering to John's opinion that Phil Spector did a pretty good job on the original Let it Be, seeing what he was given. As much as Paul & Yoko get along now, I'm sure there are always those power struggles when it comes to Beatles releases, and I'm sure this had to be seen as a Paul project.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, or maybe the dollar signs shine bright enough to eclipse these power struggles.

They probably crunched the numbers...soon everyone was in agreement.

I don’t think any of them were happy with Spector’s Let It Be.

For all the talk thrown around of Yoko sternly vetoing Beatles projects, how much real evidence do we have that she does that? Maybe the Let It Be...Naked pitch went something like this:

PAUL: I figured out a way to make people buy Let It Be again.
    YOKO [intrigued]: Go o-o-o-onnn...
PAUL: Plus we're adding another John song.
YOKO: You had me at "money."

Of course she approved it. A few years later she did her own album with John in a similar manner, Double Fantasy Stripped Down

I think the original Let It Be (which John is on record saying he liked) is an established enough classic that the Naked follow-up was seen as more of an adjunct release rather than a replacement. As it turned out this album was released back in 2002 or 2003 or thereabouts so it may very well have been the last "new" Beatles release to sell in significant numbers (for physical copies I mean).

I believe she did a "stripped down" album with John long before then....Two Virgins. You can't get more stripped down than those two did! :)

What’s wrong with Paul getting a green light on a project he’s interested in? It goes both ways. Veto a project someone really, really wants and see how non-enthusiastic they’ll be in return when there’s something you want done.

I remember reading that Yoko did not like the version of Don't Let Me Down that was originally chosen for ...Naked, so they chose another take.
Yoko and Olivia have equal votes to Paul and Ringo.

I wouldn't say it's Paul-centric. Basically there's four John songs, four Paul songs, two George songs, plus I've Got A Feeling. Seems pretty even.

Yes, but it's viewed as Paul's baby because he's the one who was most vocal in his dislike of the Spector production - especially in terms of "LAWR".

Paul was the one who did the most to make it exist, Paul promoted it the most and Paul's songs got the most obvious changes - seems "Paul-centric" to me! :)

Olivia has been in the music business professionally for over 44 years. Yoko even longer. They are perfectly capable of making these decisions

Is there anything they have NOT signed off on in recent years? There is always $$$ to be made.

In terms of potential uses of the catalogue that never came to fruition? Yes, quite probably there are several examples

Oh stop it - John said he liked it initially because Paul hated it.

Later on, John said there wasn't a single Beatles song that he wouldn't want to re-record.

    John talked a lot.

So we cannot really know if they refused to sign off on anything in recent years. Maybe, maybe not.

Given that they manage one of the most in-demand catalogues in existence, and a relatively limited number of releases have come out, it's PROBABLE they vetoed some
