Like Led Zeppelin III or something. This was 1964! The Beatles just landed three weeks ago! He cares not!

I was supposed to get on the release day from Amazon, but it came this Monday. That's not too bad, considering what's going on with them now.

I think I might like this version even more than the one on "Kickin' Child".

Dion Kickin Child – So Much Younger mystery?

I was hoping the new CD would clear up some of the outstanding issues about what was recorded and when, but I now think its muddied the waters.

It surrounds when did D’s Columbia contract finish. Scott Kempner (via FB) says before the end of 65, but Andrew Sandival on Wonder Where I’m bound CD, says 2 Ton Feather / So Much Younger were recorded in March 66 and the producer was Bob Mersey. (Also supported by Road IM on CD)

Scott in his notes says So Much Younger was recorded in Dec 64 and was produced by Tom Wilson. But both these statements are contradicted by the back cover of his CD.

I’m inclined to think Sandival got his facts right? Can anybody out there prise open the session tape boxes and have a look? Perhaps we will have to wait till the full Columbia box set comes out?

I’d love to hear others views on this

    Steve

The single came out in 1966 so I'm assuming it was recorded in '66 with "Two Ton Feather" as Andrew has indicated.[IMG]

The "So Much Younger" 45 was indeed recorded and released in 1966. Recorded on 3/2/66 to be precise. Below is a rundown of all the recording dates of the tracks on the Norton LP, plus a few tracks or takes from that period that are not included. I also included where the takes used could be found first.
##: Tracks produced by Robert Mersey. The remainder of the Norton set was recorded with Tom Wilson at the helm on 9/20/65 and 10/4/65

The Mersey produced Columbia 45 (Two Ton Feather/So Much Younger 4-43692) from 1966 was at the time released credited to "Dion & the Wanderers." The "Kickin' Child" 45 was not.

Together Again has some lesser tracks, but there is a lot of good stuff on it. I have a mono and a stereo copy and remember that one of them is mastered horribly.

Where did you find that info? It sounded indeed very much like the more amped up earlier version of "Kickin' Child" from the same date that can be found on "Bronx Blues." Perhaps there were some mother's little helpers kicking around the Columbia studio that day.

A ha! Thanks! The funny thing is that the Bronx Blues/Don't Start Me Talkin' version was recorded on 4/17/1965, while this newly found version while sounding more modern was actually recorded almost a month earlier on 3/24/65.

Actually that other version was recorded 4/17/1964.

Hi Steve, I gather from The Zodiac's remark that you may have a Columbia sessionography from the Dion Information exchange days. Would you care to share that info with this list?

This is one helluva good CD! Magnificent material magnificently mastered by Vic Anesini.

I will be very pleasantly surprised if a better CD by anybody gets released this year. It's superb.

What was that thing about him saying he is more important than Buddy Holly?
That always irked me as I really like Dion's voice/songs.

Something to do with Buddy's plane crash /death and how Buddy is remembered as one of the greats.
Dion, don't think he rated B Holly's music that highly compared to his own. Can't find the quote(sorry), but it's been documented somewhere.
