They were very comfortable looking sweaters, though....

And the music contained within was still pretty boss.

    The photos, yes.

The art direction...something more vintage arguably would have been nice.

Exactly what is non-vintage about them? This is Norton Records we're talking about here; those covers could have easily passed for the year (years?) they were recorded in.

    I guess I don't see it.

Well, no one will mistake this record for Chance the Rapper.

So if the priority was to give us a sort of "Complete Dion & The Wanderers" package....and Dion decided to shoe horn "Kickin' Child" into the mix even though it went against the concept (even if it is an awesome track)....what were his feelings on "Spoonful"? Too heroin-y?

As much as I dig the beard and sweaters, I prefer my Dion dressed to the nines, scotch in hand, flying an aircraft.

Maybe because he wrote Kickin' Child and not Spoonful?

Ah, so only Dion or Dylan originals allowed! A conspiracy!

For some reason Dion decided that Kickin' Child should be the name of the record, and that therefore the titular song had to be included. He never said anything about Spoonful, or any other song for that matter, he just really had a hangup on Kickin' Child.

I can't wait for this release and I hope there are some different mixes.

I actually settled on the same 15-song track-listing for a CDR project that's on my iPod... different sequence though:

I've just read the liner notes (written by Scott Kempner, of the Dictators fame, and a friend of Dion's)
According to these, these 1965 cuts were conceived as one album, Kickin' Child was always going to be the album title, and the song was always going to be included on it. So there's the explanation.

Except, of course, So Much Younger, which wasn't even recorded until 1966.

    I'll go along with it...

Well I imagine by the time they recorded So Much Younger, they still thought the album would see the light of day, seeing as they re-recorded Two Ton Feather during that same session.
Then again, everything Dion remembers from 50 years ago when he was on smack has to be taken with a grain of salt.

As I argued in my articles I posted on whistletaste last year if you put the session recording dates in order (all there on the compilations) you can hear the electric blues sound of the wanderers emerge:

    • in the in March – April 65 (Robert Mersey) and continue in the
    • June 65 (Robert Mersey)
    • before flowering in the Sept- Oct 65 Session (Tom Wilson) then
    • finishing with the Mar 66 session (Robert Mersey).

The electric blues group sound is consistent throughout these sessions suggesting a core group of musicians remained unchanged. Two versions of Kickin Child are recorded in Mar 65 when the core group of musicians, later named the wanderers were operating.

So I see no reason why KickinChild should not be included on the new CD.

Its the other side to Kickin Child and its the Wanderers sound even if the label says differently . It would get my vote for inclusion . But then, I'd also include

Drop Down Baby (Dion) The Seventh Son

Both covers are worth the asking price alone imo.
Beehive, Raybans, Cuban heels, the smiles say "I just recorded some f***ing great tracks."
Just walking down the street while holding a chord and that knowing smile is cool. What is Mrs DiMucci holding in her left hand btw?

I've got Wonder Where I'm Bound but I'm up for this new LP. Love 900 Miles, Southern Train and Seventh Son. Some of the guitar on this album is perfect.
What's worth buying while I'm waiting for May 5th?

Dion and his guitar during his folky period. Sublime.
I would also recommend the following 2-fers, also in folk mode:
You're Not Alone/Suite For Late Summer
    Sanctuary/Sit Down Old Friend

I've been just about to press the button on this - it looks like my sort of thing, but an Amazon review I read said it was monotonous. I'll take your advice!.

Mayhap "Drop Down Baby" is too similar to "Two Ton Feather", thus it got dismissed from contention?

"The Seventh Son" is another bad-ass track. Love that opening acoustic guitar. He's hitting them strings with purpose!

There's enough material here for two records. Hell, three if we go back to the 'Drip Drop' era.

Maybe all the hoopla over this release will encourage Dion to slip a song or two into his sets. I wish to God he'd come back up to my neck of the woods. I haven't seen him since 2010 in Peekskill! I should have made the drive to Woodstock to see him with Ronnie Spector last time but getting out of that place is a nightmare.
