I just saw that Rhino are going to reissue this incredible box set. I bought mine a couple of years ago when the original was out. at $175 that is well below what the original is going for on the resale market.

Just curious...where did you see this? I, of course, never bought any of these pressings - until 2 days ago when I ordered Making Movies...:realmad:

Dunno....Just searched Google and even went directly to Rhino.com -- nothing on any reissue of this box.

Shortly after I posted, I got an email from Soundstage Direct which lists the Dire Straits box for pre-order at $136.99. I didn't see a release date on the pre-order page though...

FWIW, the email does indeed indicate 180g vinyl box set.

The listing indicates what I believe are the previous pressings from the earlier box - 1st 4 titles cut by Bernie Grundman & Chris Bellman, last 2 titles cut by Bellman from Bob Ludwig's digital mastering.

How are these? I have a bunch of original US Warners and the MOFI BIA. Have all the MOFI 45's pre-ordered but are these worth checking out?

Definitely. I cancelled my Music Direct order when I bought 2 of these individually, Making Movies (Bernie Grundman), and On Every Street (Chris Bellman), to complete their catalog.

    Very highly recommended.

The post that linked the Acoustic Sounds page originally, was used to bump the upcoming MOFI titles, saying something to the effect of " so this is what's delaying the MFSL Dire Straits releases ! "

I love my original reissue box. I went so far as to buy them again individually.... then passed them on to a friend who was just getting into Dire Straits. I am glad this is being reissued as there were a lot fans out there who missed it. Kudos to Rhino for taking this on.

Yes, this looks terrific. My originals are all wonderful, though, with the obvious exception of Making Movies. May be entirely worth it for me for just that title!

It's so quiet, and it's so thunderous...it's a Bernie Grundman. :hugs:

Is this another reissue, or just a repress of the 2013 box?

Sellers on discogs are charging for small fortune for that one,
i guess it's sold out, and Rhino is just making more copies of this:
    Dire Straits - The Studio Albums 1978 - 1991

I have original US and UK. The reissues stand up VERY well next to them.

A lot of out of print box sets are listed at very high prices on Discogs for ages. I’m not sure there is that much demand for this, especially with Mofi 45 rpm versions on the horizon?

A couple of thoughts on that... 1) I don't believe MoFi will do a better job than Grundman/Bellman/Ludwig. Maybe as good. 2) 45s are a pain in the ass.

Quite possible. But, the other thing is, I suspect that most audiophile types already have either the box, or the albums that they want. Are the individual albums still available? They were around for years.

I really wanted this a couple of years ago, when it was really expensive. Since then I've bought all the albums, either new or used, except for On Every Street.

Would any owners be able to give a comparison of this with the Original Presses (namely the first few albums)?

Thanks, would you call any of the reissues definitive versions at this point in time?
