I believe that is correct. There is also a silver face WG for US pressing that is different from the standard US cd. I believe it matches the WG Vertigo/Target, but that is unconfirmed.

    Thank you.

BTW, I read your post where you prefer slightly the Jpn 4 US WB of Making Movies over the Vertigo. I have purchased one and I will compare them as I have the red fan Vertigo.

Curious to hear your thoughts. The sound is pretty close. Most prominent difference I recall is the reverb on the guitar in "Romeo & Juliet", but I no longer recall what the difference was. Maybe I detailed it in an earlier post somewhere. I last compared the cds years ago and I generally listen to the lp these days.

That seems to be the difference you pointed out:

So the WG targets sound as good as the Vertigos (they should as they share the same mastering)?

Correct. The first four WG Vertigo albums all have shortened songs, without exception.

First four? And those are S/T; Communique; Making Movies (IIRC the nonremastered US WB cd has this as well); and Love Over Gold? What songs are shortened on the Vertigo Love Over Gold?

Actually the differences on LOG are absolutely minimal and should give no reason for any concern (Vertigo red swirl vs. 96 remaster):

    Telegraph Road 14:17 vs. 14:18
    Private Investigations 6:46 vs. 6:47
    Industrial Disease 5:50 vs. 5:51
Love Over Gold 6:18 vs. 6:17
It Never Rains 7:56 vs. 7:59

And just for the sake of completeness the debut:

Down To The Waterline 4:01 vs. 4:02
Water Of Love 5:24 vs. 5:27
Setting Me Up 3:20 vs. 3:20
Six Blade Knife 4:11 vs. 4:13
    Southbound Again 2:59 vs. 3:00
Sultans Of Swing 5:36 vs. 5:48
In The Gallery 6:16 vs. 6:17
Wild West End 4:45 vs. 4:42
    Lions 4:54 vs. 5:04

    ... Communique:

Once Upon A Time In The West 5:15 vs. 5:25
    News 4:14 vs. 4:14
Where Do You Think You're Going? 3:46 vs. 3:50
    Communique 5:43 vs. 5:50
    Lady Writer 3:40 vs. 3:45
Angel Of Mercy 4:30 vs. 4:37
    Portobello Belle 4:25 vs. 4:29
Single Handed Sailor 4:43 vs. 4:43
Follow Me Home 5:42 vs. 5:51

(Actually I much prefer the unique, shorter 3:30 remix of "Where Do You Think You're Going?" on the "Money For Nothing" compilation.)

    ... and Making Movies:

Tunnel Of Love 8:09 vs. 8:11
Romeo And Juliet 5:54 vs. 6:02
    Skateaway 6:19 vs. 6:41
    Expresso Love 5:03 vs. 5:12
Hand In Hand 4:50 vs. 4:49
    Solid Rock 3:19 vs. 3:27
    Les Boys 4:06 vs. 4:09

My Jpn 4 US of Making Movies came today and played the first three songs. I hear the reverb on the guitar of Romeo & Juliet. I like this pressing a lot. It's close between this and the Vertigo. But I like this a tad better.

To many folks use a blanket statement for which is better. It really depends on the disc, I've heard remasters that trounced the original and vice versa.

Actually picked up S/T remaster the other day out of curiosity, not bad at all for a modern RM, was quite impressed

The recent Japan SHM cd mastering is great for the self titled.

I A/B'd the U.S. Remaster of "brothers in arms" with the original cd from the 80's and the remaster is squashed. All the peaks are digitally clipped and a lot of the dynamics are gone!! Original wins.

The remastered CDs are the best, the original vinyl always sounded good to begin with.

The original WG Vertigo CD's are now my favorites except for the titles available on Platinum SHM-CD.

The remastered "Brothers" is squashed and clipped. The original cd has lots of breathing room.

Listening to the BiA remaster (and looking at the waveforms) I fail to hear or see any serious "squashing" or "clipping". Just because the original CD's extreme DR of 16 has been reduced to 12 and because the remaster is significantly louder, that doesn't mean that it sounds bad in any way. That said, I prefer the original CD, too.

Don't know the level of "serious" we are talking about, but all the peaks are clipped from what I can see.
It seems like most of the "warner remasters" series were treated in a similar way. I just A/B'd the original of Madonna's "Like a virgin" with the remaster and it was even more extreme. Terrible.

Would the above discussion include a comparison between the original redbook and the redbook on the Hybrid SACD of BiA?
