The 2013 remasters were offered in both SHM and PT SHM format? Or are we suggesting that the new PT SHMs are identical to the old SHMs?
That's great. Thank you. I feel having that answered explicitly will prevent confusion for anyone finding out about these SHM CDs for the first time and browsing this thread.
Just Compared the 1987 WB vs 1996 Vertigo vs a 2012 SACD rip. The SACD have a good dynamic but, to me, sounds awful. The 1996 remaster is pretty good, DRMeter say it have a better dynamic than the 1987 Vertigo (wich reaches peak in some tracks) but the latter sounds definitely a little bit better. Now I'm going to compare the 1987 Vertigo with the 1984 West German red swirls (but they seem to be the exact same mastering looking at DRMeter results)
I've been keeping an eye out for the s/t remaster in used stores for quite awhile to no avail. So I finally found it online new for $7 bucks or so. It's sounding very good right now, but when "Setting Me Up" comes on here in a moment I am gonna crank these Luxmans. Then I'll report back.
First, thanks for sharing this. Second, do you still prefer the Japan for US to the Euroo Vertigo CD? Finally, the Japan for US is the one that has the first two peaks in EAC at 100%, correct? Also, can others share their favorite for BIA? @curbach
I have been going back and forth with regards to the first album, which CD I like best. Now, I listen to the recent vinyl re-release, but I thnk I liked the Vertigo CD better in the long run.
Thanks, and the Japan for USA has the same mastering as the DADC? Dire Straits: Brothers In Arms (Release) - cdHistory »
I don't recall for sure. But between the two CD versions which were mentioned, I prefer the Warner Bros.
So is the consensus that the best digital version of On Every Street the SHM-CD? On Every Street [SHM-CD] Dire Straits CD Album » I've given up getting a noise free version of this on vinyl. BTW there are a bunch of SHM-CD from Dire Straits that are coming soon, not sure these are new or reissues.
IIRC the old SHMs are just clones of the 96 remasters, while the new SHMs are the preferred versions for most of the albums.
I've read through every post in this thread, it is almost impossible to follow....good lord. Still trying to figure out if I should pay out the extra cash for On every Street to get the 2013 SHM Japan or look for an early first release CD on eBay
Regarding Brothers in Arms, between the US SRC-01 and the Japan for US Matsushita, I would fail a blind listening test, they both carry the 100% mastering Both sound wonderful, I would give the edge to the US however, it has the complete (well almost complete) face paint
Here's a sample of 'On Every Street' from the 1991 German PDO, just to give you an idea I have no idea what the US sounds like, was stolen decades ago... Dropbox - On Every Sample.wav »
