We have debated this many times and it is OK to debate it some more here, but what I really want to know is what type of TT does the membership actually use. If you have more than one type of TT you can vote for both.

I have a Linn LP12 TT. I also have a secondary turntable which I use only for 78s. It is a Dual 1209 (idler wheel drive, IIRC - neither belt nor direct!).

    Cheers,
    Chris

I have a debut III; belt
it is widely accepted that a belt drive 'table
reduces vibation from the motor substantially.
it also depends on your use of a turntable
scratching and DJ-ing would not be best with
    a Clearaudio 'table

I've owned a Denon DP-62L...a beefy, well built DD manual 'table. Served me well for over 20 years.

Now I have my dad's '79 Technics SL-1700MK2 semiautomatic DD 'table which I may just connect to my current system real soon...if so, I'll be using this classic until such time as I can afford to replace it with a flagship Music Hall, Pro-Ject, or Rega BD!

I don't favor DD over BD, just as I don't favor SET over PP, or digital over SS...it's all good!

All my cheap 'tables so far have been belt, but just out of chance- if I'd seen DD models when I was on the lookout for each of them, respectively, they'd have been DD.

I use a DD SL-1200mkII, though i have a BD in the cupboard - a French ERA(70s JC Verdier). I think there is much misinformation about the DD system; sure there are no doubt poor DD decks, but there are poor BD decks too.
Solid speed is a must for me, and this is actually the main reason why i bought the SL-1200, but having used this deck & read a lot of material(inc. that on the KAB site), it's clear that a good DD is anything but inferior IMO. Mud sticks though. ;)

My Technics SL-1600MK2 is now taking a breather after 25 years of dependable service. I now spin records on a new VPI Scout Master. So I voted belt.

I have a Nottingham Spacedeck with a belt drive. The motor is always running and you give the heavy platter a spin to start it up.

Just got a new anti-static belt for my VPI HW-19 Mk. IV. Thus far, it seems to have eliminated the pop I used to get every few revolutions with the standard white/clear belt.

Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

I'm using the same JVC DD table I bought in 1981. It's still very servicable, especially since it plays nice with my Shure M97xE, but I need to upgrade. I was going to get a belt drive TT, but I am rethinking that.

    Oracle belt drive TT.

I've owned Technics belt drive and direct drive tables. The DD tables always had more "rumble" present when you cranked it up loud.

Belt Drive AR-XB. As someone mentioned earlier, give it a good spin by hand when firing it up.
