Anybody have any experience with this CD on the RSO label? If so, how does it compare to the MoFi CD? While we're on Clapton.....comments on the MoFi CD release of "Slowhand" (UD II) vs. the latest remasters?
The RSO, usually made in Germany, lacks detail that the MFSL actually has, along with genuine warmth. The RSO is actually fairly good, as is the 1st Polydors. Nothing to cry about. Please avoid the lastest remasters from Clapton. They're absolutely horrible! I got one during a time I was thinking I was buying DTS CDS from half.com. I got Ocean Blvd's remaster by accident (along with many other mistakes). Holy smokes!
Thanks for the info, Sckott. So I guess we should add E.C. to the thread of "Which old non-remastered CDs to hang onto", right?
Avoid the Dennis Drake (??) master of Just One Night. Go for the MFSL. Haven't heard the remaster. Anyone?
Sckott forgot to mention that on the MFSL Disraeli Gears you also get all the songs in glorious Mono as well and some of the songs really deliver better in Mono. Just MHO. I sure wish either Steve or MFSL would complete the Clapton catalogue, sure would like to hear an audiophile recording of "Journeyman".
I've got a UD1 of Disraeli Gears and it's excellent - it sounds much nicer than any Polydor or RSO version. Any comments from Steve regarding the master tape sound and which version comes closest?
What exactly is the story with the Clapton remasters? I have never heard any of them. I do have every non-remastered CD of his and all of the MFSL's and DCC's. I was considering some of the remasters back when they came out, but heard nothing but bad things about them. BTW, I'm glad that they're ****ty, because I don't want to buy the whole collection again!
And neither do I. Dennis Drake was involved, although I don't have the lot of Polydors with me @ this moment. The remasters have clear spines and trays, and so do the ones overseas, I believe, UK & Australia. The stock issues from the late 80's->90's are gonna look like normal stock Polydors. FWIK, the RSO's weren't any different....
Dennis Drake did the first remastering efforts (non transparent tray), Joe Palmaccio did the second (clear tray) Prior to this, I have no idea who did the sound (possibly someone in Holland)
