Here is a fun article I suspect the forum will dig.

"Plenty of films have yet to make the hi-res journey to Blu-ray, but there are hundreds that never even made it to DVD. Empire has been digging, and we've exhumed these 25 movies never officially pressed onto a small, silver disc... to date. If you feel inclined, suggest your own lost treasures in the comments.

The rules, then. Availability in some regions but not others doesn’t count – these are films that, as far as we can ascertain, have never been released on DVD anywhere. Likewise, things that have been available but are now out of print do not make the cut. And we’ve kept it to films with either reasonably recognisable directors or cast. We didn't bother with Tales From the Quadead Zone, for example...

Of those on the list “Last Movie”, “Willard” and “Ben” are high on my personal wish list.

The number 1 film on my wish list is “Summer Camp Nightmare”, which will probably never see the light of day.

I was wondering why I've never seen this around. Written by actor Robert Shaw. I always though it might have been because -- if you think about it -- there's a somewhat questionable idea behind the twist.

I remember both Meet the Applegates and Grim Prairie Tales from my VHS rental days. Shout! Factory seems set on releasing every cult 80s film and they'd be a natural fit there, especially since it doesn't seem to be music rights that are causing the problem. I'd even be interested in seeing Freddy's Nightmares again.

I'd like to see Nothing Lasts Forever and SubUrbia.

Parker Posey looks good as always.

Edit: I see it's on the iTunes store- problem solved.

"Baja" -- 1995 flick with Lance Henriksen, Molly Ringwold, Corbin Bernsen, and others. I saw it on VHS around '95 and liked it mainly for Henriksen's performance and the desert setting.

I remember wanting to like SubUrbia far more than I did.

I hope you have better luck than I had!

Some of these movies I spent a little time tracking down to watch. The Keep was available on Blockbuster on Demand for Dish. It was 4:3 and a pretty poor transfer. Freaky little weird movie. A Director's Cut would be an epic Midnight Movie. The only bootleg video I every purchased in my life was RAD. I really do not know why this is nowhere to be found. It does have a soundtrack with a few "hits". Maybe music rights?

  21. SubUrbia is at the top of my want list - the only Richard Linklater film not available on DVD. I have a hard time believing that music rights issues are causing that much of a problem, seeing as the sort of alt-rock bands on the soundtrack aren't exactly the sort of acts that are known to break licensing budgets. But, of course, who knows.

  22. Yes, Shaw was accused of anti-semitism when it was first staged and the film faced some of the same issues. It was a knee jerk reaction to a film (and play) thst was pretty psychologically complex. I suspect thst this along with The Ice Man Cometh are in legal limbo due to the complex financing and the studio going bankrupt.

Unless there's a movie called "The Abyss" other than James Cameron's, it has been on DVD for years.
