Man I bet Parents Just Don't Understand (Single Edit) is probably smoking. That song made me crazy when it came out it was so dope. I feel like many of the songs I loved from the radio in the 80s were way off when I got the album on tape.

"Parents Just Don't Understand" was slightly edited for the single, but it was the same mix as the album. The "Brand New Funk" single mixes are the smoking hot remixes.

And after I spent all that money buying the one German CD pressing that had the unedited LP versions of the singles. "A Nightmare On My Street" and "Parents Just Don't Understand" (and a seven other tracks) were edited on *every* CD copy except the German Jive pressing (8.26826) to fit the album on a single CD. For the German Jive CD they simply left the last two album tracks off so they could include the full LP versions of the other songs.

    Definitely getting this one...

Here's a full list of the songs that were edited on every CD pressing except the 8.26826 pressing:
    - A Nightmare on My Street
    - As We Go
    - Parents Just Don't Understand
    - Let's Get Busy, Baby
    - DJ on the Wheels
    - He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper
    - Hip Hop Dancer's Theme
    - Jazzy's in the House
    - Human Video Game

Also, some of the lyrics on "A Nightmare On My Street" were re-recorded and used on most CD pressings, wonder which version of the lyrics we're getting here.

The version with the re-recorded lyrics is the official single version, which is track 7 on disc 2 of the upcoming release.

I also bought the German CD several years ago when trying to get the unedited LP versions. The new Real Gone mastering sounds really nice and better than the old German disc. (I wrote the liner notes for it and consulted with them to make sure the proper mixes made the finished master.)

Awesome! Very much looking forward to this. I also have the original double LP that I wore out as a kid (along with the Nightmare 7" that I picked up a few years ago at goodwill). Happy to hear the mastering is good, that was my one hesitation with this sitting in my cart.

I had it on cassette as a kid and wore out the tape! And yes, I've heard and seen the waveforms of the reference CD, and it's not brickwalled.

Good call on that one. I knew about the others, but I didn't notice the run time differences on "Let's Get Busy Baby."

Finally. This is an instant purchase for me. My cassette is well worn out and I've never been able to find a rip of it online. Never owned this one on vinyl.

I see it even includes "Another Special Announcement"! TOO DAMN HYPE!

Brand New Funk is Jazzy at his finest. That track still kicks butt to this day. Never cared much for Will Smith.

Now this is cool, "Brand New Funk" is one of my favorites from the era, great production, at his best Will can hold his own with the best of them.

It's about time the uncut version of this album was reissued. The highlight for me: the title track is missing two minutes of Jeff's turntablism that only appeared on the cassette & vinyl. - if you've only heard the CD version, you're in for a treat when it's restored on this new set. A Serious thumbs up, this should've happened years ago. Better late than never.

Yes, many of the vocals are different between the single and LP versions. I think the main reason the lyrics were re-cut was because editing the LP version for length would've resulted in verses that didn't make sense. Will is a great storyteller, and he didn't typically rap 16 bars for each verse. Instead of editing, the story on "Nightmare" was abbreviated by re-recording the lyrics.

    Pre-ordered!

I got the German CD a few months ago so I could finally have all of the full length versions, but I am happy to support this project.

This will be a definite purchase for me... I've never bothered picking up this album before on CD because of the edits.

Now if only I could find a CD copy of Rock the House.... ;)

Please note: The images above are from my scanner, which has a very, very narrow focus area. The text on the actual CD and inserts are not blurry.
