as many fellow members here on these forums already full well know, and some are quite fond of routinely making ridicule of,
I am a huge PIONEER/PIONEER ELITE fan, and most definitely a total fanboy. Anyone else here a fan and would like to share your thoughts and pictures?

    let's start with the heart of my own system/collection;

    PIONEER VSX-D1S A/V STEREO RECEIVER (1990/1993)

generally regarded by those in the know as PIONEER's Last Great Stereo Receiver. a beautiful sounding, and good looking workhorse and powerhouse
that more than doubles it's 130w 8ohm output to 280w into 2ohms, with no more 0.005% THD.

the addition of an actual MIDRANGE control to the usual BASS and TREBLE tone controls is a very nice and much appreciated touch,

this beauty has long since proven it's considerable worth to me.
my first copy, which was actually my very first high-end PIONEER component,
bought back in 2003, served me beautifully through COUNTLESS hours
of music, video games and movies. it continued to serve flawlessly
right up to a few days ago, when i replaced it with another copy
of the very same receiver, in near pristine cosmetic condition,
and with less than 20 hours of use by it's original owner.

if the lifespan so far of my first copy of this component, with and unknown
level of usage prior to my purchase back in '03, is any accurate barometer
of this stellar receiver's reliability, then this new copy of mine should last
WELL into the next decade at the very least.

in sum, this baby was just built right, straight from the ground up...

PIONEER PD-91 REFERENCE COMPACT DISC PLAYER (1987/1990)

PIONEER's very first "Serious, Audiophile-Grade" high-end CD player.
a FANTASTIC piece of hardware, built to a series of standards
impossible to find today without spending many, many thousands of dollars.

a top quality disc tray is manipulated by a wire-drive system
and steel rail that provides a lightning-fast OPEN/CLOSE operation.

the beautifully designed linear motor transport mechanism
is SO EASY to access for preventative maintenance and the rare
laser pick-up replacement that ANYONE could do it.

an all CLASS-A analog output stage makes for divine, DIVINE sound quality,
but both OPTICAL and COAXIAL digital outputs are there for transforming
this player into a killer CD transport.

finally, this is one of only a tiny handful of CD players in my personal
experience to feature an EXTERNALLY-MOUNTED POWER TRANSFORMER.

the trafo is encapsulated in solidified EPOXY RESIN and set into an outer
steel casing. this is in turn mounted to a thick, hefty
solid aluminum cradle that is mounted to the player's rear panel
with a compliant rubber bushing around set-screw system.

this was calmed by PIONEER to completely isolate
    the trafo's magnetic field generation
from the player chassis and it's electronics, improving sound quality.

in sum, this CDP has it all, and easily ranks among the best CDPs ever made...

I'm a big Pioneer fan having owned two nice receivers in the late 70's and early 80's (sx680 / sx3700). I now have a 9 year old Elite A/V receiver that sounds fantastic. I wish Pioneer currently offered separate pre and amps in their Elite line. I know they have a couple of nice integrateds

I've owned a number of Pioneer amps through the years. The only Pioneer piece in my collection right now is a SA-7100, all discrete, all metal, engraved lettering, solid machined aluminum knobs. No BPC. They just don't make them like that anymore. I also have an "SR-9" reverb amp, but it has been so stripped down and highly modified, I can't call it a Pioneer anymore.

Not a collector, but shown below is my CLD-97 laserdisc player. Not the absolute last word in LD, but a very good one. A brawny beast at 40 lbs. The surprise is the CD playback; more than a match for the DACs that I necessarily need for other disc players.

I've got a 10(?)-yr old Elite DV45a universal player, but it's hard to think of it as an Elite. It performs no better than my shabby-looking DV563a. They both play hi-res well, mind you. 45a looks tons better, however.

I have an Elite DVL-91, it's pretty mint (still has the DTS sticker on it). It's used pretty lightly but has never failed me. If I had a decent camera I'd take a picture :)

Pretty sure the standalone players do LD better, but I'm not disappointed with the picture quality of mine. Cd's sound great on it too!

one of the very best DVDPs ever made, and certainly one of the most lavishly crafted. listed at $2000.00 MSRP from 1998/2000,
one of the more expensive in it's day, as well...

Pioneer Elite hot their claws into me with laserdisc. My first piece of elite came with a DVL-90 DVD/LD player that bit the dust in an electrical surge. It was replaced with a CLD-59 LD that now lives with my wife's nephew. He's currently rocking out to Guns n Roses Live in Tokyo. When my last craptastic DVD player died Sushimaster turned me on to an elite DV-48AV universal player which in turn lead me to a SC-25, yes it's THX and AIR certified, but i bought it for the low demo price and the built in phono stage. My favorite thing about the current Elite is the big discount you can get when they are discontinued.

Not an Elite series, but I own what is considered to be Pioneers best Laserdisc player (other than the Muse player), the Pioneer LD-S9. Love the champagne color.

Pretty impressive. So an "Air" certified A/V receiver will probably have excellent 2 channel sound/performance as well as Multi channel. my old 43tx Elite receiver (I listen only to 2 channel) I think sounds pretty darn good. It is definitely not the week link in my system. Did Pioneer ever produce Elite or non Elite mono blocks?

Yeah..I would not doubt your 43tx is a "barn burner!" My 09TX is classified "monitor reference and it simply "burns em' down!" I thought I heard and if I remember correctly at one time Pioneer had done something with separates, but that was many years ago now and I do not know off hand to what extent they went into it. Many people wish they would, I suspect. :)

"The boffins at Pioneer rate the LX90/SC09TX's power plant at 200W per channel, but they're being conservative. In our Tech Labs, we measured a constant 250W into 8ohms when five channels are driven simultaneously. Its fidelity firewall, our measurement of absolute, distortion-free muscle, is 228W per channel at 0.05% THD. This is a weapons-grade performance."
