Do you ever listen to Fleetwood Mac's Tusk?

I've always enjoyed this somewhat bizarre follow-up to the Rumours juggernaut. I just listened to again recently, and I actually think Tusk has held up quite well over time. Probably more so than their other albums. What are your thoughts on this quirky record?

It's a puzzling record. Almost a stealth record. They were in a unique place following Rumours, and Tusk is a document of that.

I really tried to like it and the songs aren't all that bad, but just couldn't justify it knowing I was unable to become even the littlest engaged in it.

I play 'Rumours', 'Mirage' and 'Tango In The Night' more, but I always enjoy 'Tusk' when I do listen to it.

I've heard it more this year as I've been enjoying the Hi Res version in the deluxe box so much.

Ah, I haven't heard that yet. Brings up another question, what's the best new version to get, if you're like me and are still listening to the original vinyl ;-) I do have a 5.1 set up if that matters. Is this Hi Res version the best out there now?

There's a huge thread here to help you out with that.:)

Fleetwood Mac - Tusk Deluxe Edition Box Set »

It depends how much 'Tusk' you want. The Hi Res and 5.1 versions are only in the deluxe box. I'm not a big 5.1 fan, though the mix of 'Tusk' is very good. The CD remaster of the album is decent too, though a lot of people seem to prefer the original CD version (with the edited 'Sara') or the vinyl over it.

I like it, not more than "Rumours" but just as much. Not as polished and yes, quirkier, if that's a word! I like "Sisters of the Moon" and "Think About Me" by the girls. The title track is puzzling and amazing all at the same time. I like the single edit of "Sara." "Rumours" was a phenomenon, and really couldn't be topped, so they just did their thing with mixed results. I think it stands up well in their catalog! :)

Not unless I feel the need to punish myself. A headscratcher of an album after Rumours....I didn't get it then and though I give it another chance every ten years or so, I still don't. They redeemed themselves with their next few albums imo. I do respect they didn't go for the easy buck and instead did something very daring and artistic, it just doesn't resonate for me personally. But, there are a lot of folks here that do get it and love the album. I don't get Dylan either, so I guess my opinion isn't worth much!

I don't like Dylan the singer, but he has written some good songs for sure! So i understand where your coming from! :)

To answer the original question, yes. Often. I like it more than Rumours. (ducks)

The best mastering of le Mac is on The Chain (4 disc set). Sorry for not answering the question directly. I love Tusk...but not LB's experimental flights of fancy. I have Out Of The Cradle for that!

Very rarely and when I do there is a lot of track skipping. Rumours, Tango in The Night and Mirage dominate my FM listening.

Often. A lovely, strange and rich collection of music that always reveals another layer each time I hear it.

Both polished and ramshackle at the same time. Quite a feat.

Yes, quite a lot recently, the recent reissue and alternate tusk vinyl helped push this up the listening lists, still enjoy this album and applaud Lindsey Buckingham for his vision and stubbornness not to repeat Rumours

Probably every couple of years or so - I really like the album and play it as much as any of their 'later' albums...

I liked them better with Peter Green but pretty much view them as two different bands. Obviously I've not heard much from their early - mid 70s output! This is another reminder to order that Original Albums Series set that covers that period. Which I have just done.

I cannot imagine the album now without the additional astonishing riches presented as the Deluxe edition.

Lindsey Buckingham! From what superior race was that man sent?
