Patrick Troughtan but William Hartnell is a close second. Both are good.

Pertwee for me, followed by Baker. I like them all up through Davison.

i enjoy most of the doctors, depending on my mood. but i do tend to re-watch the tenant and smith stories most. i really enjoyed the 50th show- saw it at the theater on Monday night. great to watch with a room packed with fans! and so cool to see the various actors come together. as a group we literally laughed and cried and cheered- very memorable :) and for once, the 3D effect was central to the plot.

I was tremendously lucky to see the 50th Anniversary special at the cinema. It was PACKED out, I was stunned by the level of devotion so many people have to this show I grew up with. I loved Dr. Who as a small child and it’s always been one of my ‘things.’ I stuck with it through the thick and very thin. I’ve been so so happy to see it become so popular and reinvigorated by such amazing new talent.

    As to fav Docs….

Baker followed by Troughton was always my answer, but with the reboot that question has become tougher. I was initially dubious about Matt Smith, but his pairing with Amy and Rory made them as compelling as the 4th Dr. and Sarah Jane Smith.

If you’ve not watched ‘An adventure in space and time’, the drama about the start of Dr. Who, do yourself a favor and do so - it’s a beautiful sonnet from the heart of a true fan and well worth your time.

Seeing Tom Baker in the 50th special was a real moment for me - excuse me, I appear to have something in my eye...

Not really sure. His departure from the show after one series/season has been a bit of a mystery. [Did he jump or was he pushed?] Contradictory statements in the press by both sides haven't helped clear it up. Apparently, he was only signed to a one year contract, and he didn't want to continue. Although, the BBC might not have wanted him back for more. The most plausible answer is that there was a personality clash between Eccleston and the people running the show and the BBC. A rumour had it that Eccleston was invited to participate in the 50th Anniversary show, seemed to consider it, but ultimately declined.

Here's a 2010 interview in which he talks about leaving the show.

Pertwee was great but I feel the writing suffered during his tenure. They turned into a childrens action show with him stuck on earth and working with UNIT.

I love those episodes but to me they don't even feel like Doctor Who.

That's very good. How often do you see Peter Cushing in a line up of Drs? Is Bernard Cribbins the only person shown twice? And they've put Peter Capaldi in there too.

    I didn't! Where is Waldo K-9?

The only conspicuous absence that came to mind (which I could be overlooking) is a cat nun nurse:

    What wonderful characters they've had.
