Does a high end CD player provide better sound than a lossless rip?

I often confuse medial with mean. One is average, the other not.

I've read that a very very good CD player would sound even more musicaler.

Are you talking about pressed CDs or CD-Rs? Or both?

" Musical," sounding less like audio gear and more like music. :pineapple:

I thought there was no politics here. People seem to answer the question they want rather than the one asked, just like you know who...

How does any functioning CD player or DAC not sound musical?

I don't know. My "cd player" is silent because it's never turned on when listening to music. :D

This is the perfect exemple of a meaningless post. I'm impressed.

Personally, I don't experience "digipack hell" a lot of folks rant about. All my digipacks are in perfect condition and one is 24 years old (Pearl Jam Vs). My first CD jewell case is 31 years old and it is great, as well (Emerson Lake Powell).

    I disagree emphatically.:D
@libertycaps packed a lot of meaning into that post.
    Let's disasemble a bit.
    1. The question in the OP is subjective, so not gonna answer that (you are all fools to attempt to), except for me posting here with a non answer.
    2. I love my CDs and CDPs and LPs, meaning I don't stream.
    Followed by stealth brags:
    1. I have a great sounding audio system which impresses everyone
    2. I have a huge house
    3. I make lots of money
    4. I truly pity those who stream, because they obviously have little resources and anyone with any actual money, would be listening to CD on a real system.

I have to admit, my fancy CD player is a pain in the a$$. Doesn't get along with CDs that have noticeable scratches, especially towards the outside edge (last tracks). Brand new/mint CDs play fine and sound great, though.

Another great thing about CDs is that they can be resurfaced to new/newish condition. I've had it done many many times. Esp. for those rare titles. It's well worth the buck or two i paid.

I know. I've done it but it's no panacea - a badly scratched CD is beyond redemption, in my experience.

So a CD is better then a lossless rip because you can buff scratches out of a CD, but not a FLAC file?

Your performance in this thread has been fantastic. Try to post more if you can.

I did too in the 80's, and gladly sold off my CD collection in the 2000's. Just sits there and collects dust. NO REGRETS!!!!!

Now all my music is at my fingertips! :edthumbs:

I still don't know how I feel about this. I don't feel like collecting CDs anymore but going full-digital would break my heart... Pff.
