I will buy the odd concert film and Criterion Blu-ray. I really loved Interstellar and picked it up for about $8 at Wal-Mart.

For the most part I've stopped purchasing DVDs, there's already too many sitting in shelves that haven't been watched (not to mention laserdiscs). That said I couldn't resist the Amazon deal on the "Fawlty Towers" box set for $14.99 the other day (which I have on LD!).

I still collect all physical formats which I have a player for (LP/45, cassette, cd, DVD, Blu-ray). (I'm not into VHS anymore).
I have 78 r.p.m. records too, but no player...

But, right now I'm prioritizing The Monkees. Those Rhino deluxe sets are expensive!
    No movies for a while.
I've got long lists of movies I'd like to buy, though.

I like to have the physical format at hand. Streaming does not look as good as Blu & no HD sound.

I'm planning on digitizing my records when the right player shows up, and when I've got the money to do so.

I still buy concert DVDs occasionally but very rarely do I buy movies.
Last purchase was The Who & Friends at Royal Albert Hall (for about 3 euros) - awesome.

I am actively buying DVDs. I have been finding a lot of good ones in like new condition at the flea market for $3 and under. I have also picked up some selected horror or science fiction stuff on blu-ray.

  7. The primary things I still buy on DVD are television box sets and other content likely trapped in SD forever. I still buy movies if they are on the very cheap end ala bargain bin. Everything else is Blu-ray.

Buy? Yes. Collect? No. I don't need "hi definition" to watch things like Bullwinkle and The Three Stooges.

Unless there's something I'm dying to see that I'm pretty sure won't be aired/streamed anywhere, I don't buy them. I already have a whole wall of them that I pretty much never watch. I couldn't resist the restoration of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" to see the restored "road show" scenes, for instance.

I pulled the trigger on the remastered 'Blackadder' myself for $20.The complete series plus Christmas special with commentary on series 2 and 3.
Couldn't resist a deal like that either.

You have a source that they intentionally made DVD's look awful?

Blu Ray looks a lot better than DVD to begin with, how are you sure.?

My source is my eyes. Other "Potter" films looked quite good for DVD. But when the industry started pushing Blu-ray, Warner Brothers, in particular, had no shame. It was quite apparent what they were doing...

Happy camper with used DVDs especially if it's a rare title.
    Only buy 3D BD's now.
With the exception of Game Of Thrones..though the DVD looked the same. Worse DVD for image 'Saving Private Ryan ..kudos to the blu Ray on that title.

I'll buy them at thrift stores because it costs less than renting them as a streaming video.

I didn't buy any for several years, but now see interesting material turning up in charity shops for about £1.

Soooo, I now buy and collect them again!
