Does Chuck Berry's "Great 28" Cover ALL The Greats?

My favorites from those choices are Dear Dad, Tulane, Liverpool Drive and Bio. However, I also like It Wasn't Me and some of the ones I mentioned earlier like Route 66, Don't Lie To Me and Our Little Rendezvous.

 

Call it 'The Great 38' and you've got it. Needs You Never Can Tell though, and Tulane for me.

 

Another possibility (as mentioned by John and others) is "It Wasn't Me," with Paul Butterfield and Michael Bloomfield backing:

 

Imagine if my "My Ding-a-ling" and "Wee Wee Hours" were issued as a single? There's video circulating out there that would fit the content...

I came up with 80:38 on disc 1 and 75:15 on disc 2 if I added correctly. Move the last song on disc 1 to disc 2 and you should be good.

With Chuck's recent passing, I was thinking about upgrading this to a 3CD set.

Wow, that's some expert-level guilt-tripping there. Nicely done!

 

You Never Can Tell should be on this album.

 

the real problem with this disc which is amazing is as others have no doubt pointed out over and over that it is missing You Never Can Tell!

 

In his mostly favorable review of The Chess Box (he gave it 5 out of 5 stars), Dave Marsh argued that stretching Berry out to three full CDs only dilutes the power of his best material. I tend to agree.

 

I like Promised Land better and that is not on there either.

 

However, the Chess box does not include any of the Mercury and Atlantic material some of which is worthwhile. These cuts can be added to a 3rd disc.
