So jokey 80s pics aside, I personally don't think Heart had such a steep drop-off in the 80s.... certainly not to the extent that some have claimed. The drop-off was WAY worse for many many artists, including (deep breath) Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, and many (MANY) others. Yes, the previous artists mentioned hit higher heights than Heart in the 70s (and sometimes 60s)..... But their 80s output was pretty spotty too. Heart had some great songs in the 1980s, production "flaws" or not: Even It Up, Never, Nothin' At All, There's The Girl, Who Will You Run To..... Neil Young didn't have ONE solid song in the 80s until Rockin' In The Free World. (And that was 1989!!)

And let's be honest: There's only seven artists who got big in the 70s AND still thrived artistically and commercially in the 80s: Tom Petty, Dire Straits, Peter Gabriel, Rush, Queen, Journey, and Springsteen. The first two did it by barely changing their sound.... The next four did it by fully embracing the technology and sounds of the new decade.... And Bruce just made four very good (and very different) albums that don't really sound like each other.

So in the grand scheme of 80s sins, Heart's are pretty mild. [Cue a double shot of "Spies Like Us" by McCartney and "Dancing In The Street" by Bowie & Jagger.]

  9. Only with bypass surgery. By pass pinch hitting songwriters and let them get back to what they were great at and it would have been possible. Even with some of,the material they cut then, they weren’t as bad as some other major artists.

  13. I personally think Heart's 1985 self titled album is equally as good as "Dreamboat Annie"!

Not really that bad in 80s terms. Heck, Perry looks pretty cool!

Right. As I suspected. I'm out!
This thread DID make me want to pull out my 'Little Queen' LP though.

Oh I thought about MJ when I was writing this, but I'm not sure little Michael Jackson in the Jackson Five has much in common with the man who made Thriller.

It's also worth pointing out that The Jackson 5/The Jacksons didn't make the smooth transition into the 1980s. Just Michael. It's an N'Sync/Justin Timberlake kind of thing.

Although I suppose if you count MJ, you have to count Phil Collins (and Genesis) for also flourishing in the 80s. (Although Genesis wasn't especially big in the 70s.)

It is a shame that the sisters are not talking anymore. Ann's husband has seen to that.

And just the other day, was thinking, "I wonder if a deluxe edition of Heart will ever be released." I suppose not, from what has been stated here.
Glad to have the cd, though, and because a friend gave me a copy of the vinyl I can hear both versions of 'Nothin' At All'.

OP should do a thread search. Question has already been answered here. In any case this is just another "why is rock dead today, even though I didn't like it when rock was huge in the 1980s" SHF thread.

I actually suffered from few fashion faux pas in the 80s because I was very self-conscious and dressed conservatively. I was basically a jeans and T-shirt kid, so there are no real skeletons in that fashion closet! :)

I did have some ugly eyeglasses, though!
