    Thanks!

  2. No problem! It’s also the pressing used in the Cheap Xmas box, as is the Hoffaman/Gray pressing of Morph the Cat.

It does sound great, and the Cheap Xmas box is a bargain at the asking price.

Well, I didn't see anything about Bellman on the sleeve, but I can affirm that the sound is excellent. Far exceeds that of the original CD in my system. This is the version I bought:

  5. It wouldn't be on the sleeve. Look for a CB in the deadwax.

Yup, that's it. Bellman did his usual superb work. The one step is the king, but, but by a slimmer than you'd think margin. I like his cut better than the Bob Ludwig original, which is a phrase I thought I would never write.

Someone sent me some Flac files of the One Step version played through a high- end setup. I was only able to stream them to my system using aptx Bluetooth. There was likely some detriment from BT compression, but in that comparison, I preferred the Bellman cut.

Greater detail and instrument articulation. That could very well be due to differences in upstream components of the systems, and/or the fact that I had to stream the Flacs through BT.

Is the Bellman cut the one included with the Cheap Xmas box?

Discogs says "Nightfly from a recent Bellman cut"..... so yes.

  12. Cheap Xmas also has Steve and Kevin’s 33 rpm cut of Morph the Cat.

Just picked up a NM copy of the Ron Ludwig mastered Warners Brothers vinyl edition of this release ($2.50 at the local used record store). This has got to be one of the best sounding LP’s I now own. I can’t even imagine how the MFSL 1-Step sounds, I would probably faint if I heard it!

The RL Nightfly is killer. The One Step is even better.

I check every used copy of The Nightfly I come across for a Quiex pressing. So far no luck.

Both the RL and CB cut of The Nightfly sound phenomenal.........if you ask me which one sounds better, it will be the one I just played. :righton:

Mine has a Quiex/Ltd Ed. hype sticker, another for the IGY single/digital recording, and yet another rectangular "Promo" sticker. It's not a White Label. I don't know if there are WLPs for Nightfly. Got it shortly after it came out, and have never had another copy or sought it out on CD. I imagine the Nightfly CDs sound excellent too.

I was always told that the Quiex pressings were the promotional releases on any given title. That is only a 'fact' that I have heard over the years - not one that I have confirmed. Audiophile dealers would always sell the Quiex pressings as both 'audiophile' and promos.

Was the hype on the shrink?
Found a translucent Ludwig last year at the local thrift.
